The Pine Bluff Zebras hosted the Fort Smith Northside Grizzlies on Friday night in a 7A/6A non-conference match-up, coming out on top by a final of 14-7.

In 2016, the two teams were scheduled to play, but the game was cancelled due to inclement weather.

The Zebras started the game off on the right track. On the first drive, Braylon Moody rushed for 48 yards to the Grizzlies' 32 yard line. Jyrimee Thompson caught a pass from Tyler Foots for a 27-yard gain, and Foots ran in the endzone to score from five yards out on the following play. Foots also ran the ball to score a two-point conversion to give the Zebras an 8-0 lead.

With Northside to receive the ball after the score, the Zebras recovered an onside kick to get the offense back onto the field.

Half way through the first quarter, the Grizzlies scored with a 46-yard touchdown pass from Derrick Wise to DeAaron Robinson to make the game 8-7.

Both defenses battled for a while without allowing a score, until close to the end of the third quarter. Foots connected with Thompson for a 24-yard touchdown pass to add to the Zebras' lead 14-7.

The Grizzlies had plenty of chances to score, but the Pine Bluff defense was just too much for them to handle.

The Zebras' offense rushed for 273 yards. Foots rushed for 122 yards and a touchdown and also threw a touchdown. Moody ran for 91 yards, and Kerry Hadley ran for 42 yards.

Thompson had two receptions with 51 receiving yards with a touchdown. Diaundre Ellison had two receptions with 38 receiving yards.

Pine Bluff's defense was lead by Isiah Singleton and Nico Thurman with seven tackles a piece. Antonio Snow had an interception.

Pine Bluff has won the last two meetings between the two teams and improve to a 2-1 record on the season. The Zebras will host Little Rock Hall at home to begin conference play on Friday.
