The family and staff of Whispering Knoll Assisted Living Facility honored Siegfried Johnson with a 100th birthday celebration.

On Sept. 16, Johnson had lunch with his family and friends at Whispering Knoll and shared a cupcake social. On Sept. 17, he was honored with a birthday reception, sponsored by his family, at the Pine Bluff Country Club.

The Pine Bluff High School ROTC saluted Johnson, a veteran, and presented him with United States Flag for his service in the Army Air Corps.

The office of Pine Bluff Mayor Shirley Washington, Department of Veterans Affairs, and Retired and Senior Volunteer Program/Senior Corps also made presentations.

“Mr. Johnson is a very quiet and humble gentleman that finds so much joy in simply sitting and reading his daily newspaper,” a spokeswoman said in a news release. “On any given day, you will find him walking around with his newspaper tucked safely in the front of his pants.”
