An event in observance of National Domestic Violence Month will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, at the Office of state Sen. Stephanie Flowers, 217 Main St. This event is free and open to the public.
The organizer is Jason Irby, author of Love Within Life: So, You Want to Stop Violence. He will host the event along with Flowers, D-Pine Bluff, and Dorcas Vangilst, director of discipleship and counseling at Dorcas House.
Presenters will focus on violence, resolutions and community responsibility. Free refreshments will be served.
Speakers include: Adrian Gardner, professor, University of Central Arkansas, coordinator of UCA Domestic Violence Forum; Bennie Bowers, director of safety and security, Pulaski County Special School District; Robert Sturd, retired officer, Pulaski County Sheriff’s Department; Tiffney Lewis, financial services representative; Kim Jones Sneed, founder/publisher of Stuff In The Bluff; Pine Bluff Fire and Emergency Services Department; Tayneshia “Tay” Lowe, Career Coach of Arlington, Texas.
Irby began the observance after learning that so many have been affected by domestic violence and that it crosses gender, income and racial lines. Irby wanted to assemble a group of experts together to address the issues, he said in a news release.
“A humanitarian, Irby is the recipient of the 2015 Civic Recognition Award. He is recognized for his acts of compassion and kindness,” according to the release.
