Anniversaries


First Missionary Baptist Church in the Ladd community will observe the sixth pastoral celebration of the Rev. Accie Reynolds Jr. and Tonneshia Reynolds and family at 11 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 22. The guest preacher will be the Rev. George Glass Jr., pastor of Greater Word of Life Ministries of Bastrop, Louisiana.


Redeem Temple Church of God in Christ, 615 S. Cedar St., will celebrate the 15th anniversary of the pastor, Elder Lugene Boyd. At 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, the guest speaker will be Elder Tommy York of Unity Temple Church of God in Christ. At 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22, the guest speaker will be the Rev. Freddie L. Heard, pastor of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church at Grady.


Corinth Missionary Baptist Church at Sherrill will celebrate its 138th anniversary at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22. The guest preacher will be the Rev. George Barnes, pastor of Galilee Missionary Baptist Church at Pine Bluff.


Paradise Missionary Baptist Church at Grady will celebrate its 121st anniversary at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22. The guest preacher will be the Rev. Marshawn Wilburn, pastor of Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church at Grady. The dedication honoree will be Georgia Jordan, a mother of the church.


St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church at Sherrill will commemorate its 141st anniversary at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Darren Edgerson, pastor of St. Peter’s Rock Missionary Baptist Church at Pine Bluff.


Eighth Avenue Missionary Baptist Church, 1200 W. Eighth Ave., will host its 119th anniversary at 3 p.m. Sunday. Oct. 22. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Tegitra Thomas, pastor of First Missionary Baptist Church at Monroe, Louisiana.


Concerts


Kings Highway Missionary Baptist Church, 2312 Fluker St., will continue celebrating its pastoral month honoring the 24th anniversary of the Rev. Walter C. May Sr. and Hilda May at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22. The service will feature a concert by Men in Black.


Damascus Baptist Church, 224 N. Cypress St., will host the 47th anniversary of the Cosmopolitan Choir at 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22. Guest vocalists will be Morgan Monk and Charles Graham. The program honoree will be Darrell McField. Katryne Horton is the musician director and Sheila Jackson is the assistant director. Director Michael Bates of the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Vesper Choir and members of the choir will assist.


Cherry Hill Missionary Baptist Church at Moscow will host its choir anniversary at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Lloyd Holcomb Jr., pastor of Barraque Street Missionary Baptist Church.


New St. Hurricane Baptist Church, 3319 S. Ohio St., will host the anniversary of the inspirational choir at 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22. The director will be Bonnie Jackson.


Indiana Street Missionary Baptist Church, 1114 Indiana St., will host the music extravaganza of the Consolidated St. Marion Baptist District Association at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22. Guests will include the Webb Sisters, Old St. James Missionary Baptist Church Choir and the Spiritualettes. All proceeds will benefit the Arkansas Baptist College Scholarship Fund. The event is part of the scholarship queen drive and Annie M. Davis is the queen representative for Indiana Street church to raise money for the scholarship fund, according to a spokesman.


Watkin Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, 800 S. Juniper St., will hold its women’s day mass choir rehearsals at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 26; Monday, Oct. 30; and Thursday, Nov. 2. Donna Huskey will be the guest director.


St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church at Sherrill will host the 66th anniversary of the Pastoria Singing Union at 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Robert Thomas of Christian Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church at Pine Bluff. Musical guests will be the Rev. Sammie Smith Jr. and Nu-Begin-N Gospel Singers.


Share-A-Prayer and Word Church Fellowship, 4019 S. Main St., will celebrate Jesus at 9 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 22, featuring Edwin J. Edwards, a pastor, recording artist and saxophonist, as the guest speaker. His son, Jerjuan Edwards, will play piano.


Men’s/women’s events


Barraque Street Missionary Baptist Church, 1800 W. Pullen St., will hold its annual women’s day at 11 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 22. The guest minister will be Veronica Alexander, a member of Full Counsel Church and wife of Chancellor Laurence Alexander of the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. Veronica Alexander is also the human resources manager for the Arkansas Department of Labor. She received her bachelor’s degree from the University of New Orleans. The women’s day choir director will be Bessie Lancelin of First Missionary Baptist Church.


Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church at Dumas will host its annual men’s and women’s day at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Robert Willis, pastor of Amos Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, along with his congregation.


Prayer Garden Christian Faith Center Church of God in Christ, 800 S. Apple St., will present its annual women’s day at Sunday, Oct. 22. At 10 a.m., the speaker will be Dorothy Jackson, a mother at Prayer Garden. At 3 p.m., the guest speaker will be Annette Dove, a member of Unity Temple Church of God in Christ and executive director of TOPPS Inc.


Mt. Carmel Missionary Baptist Church, 900 Grant St., will present its annual men’s day Sunday, Oct. 22. The guest speaker at 11 a.m. will be the Rev. Willie Laws Sr., pastor of New Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church of Altheimer. At 3 p.m., the guest speaker will be the Rev. Kevin Crumpton, pastor of Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church, accompanied by his congregation.


Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church at Altheimer will observe its annual women’s day at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22. The guest speaker will be Pine Bluff Mayor Shirley Washington, a member of Old St. James Missionary Baptist Church at Pine Bluff. Music will be provided by the women’s day choir with Angela Johnson Banks of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church at Altheimer as the guest director.


St. John Missionary Baptist Church at Sherrill will hold its men’s and women’s day program at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22. The guest speaker will be Barbara Thomas of Bethel New Bethel Missionary Baptist Church at Pine Bluff.


New Direction Baptist Church, 3000 S. Louisiana St., will host its annual men’s day at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Glenn Barnes, pastor of Pine Hill Missionary Baptist Church.


Pine Hill Missionary Baptist Church, 2101 W. Reeker Ave., will host the annual pink tea of the Central District Baptist Association Woman’s Auxiliary at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 22. The event is held in support of breast cancer awareness. The district moderator and Pine Hill pastor, the Rev. Glenn Barnes, will welcome guests. The cost is $5. The district churches will be judged for the most creative, decorative container about breast cancer and for the hats that are worn. Trophies will be given to the churches raising the most money. A donation will be given to the Arkansas affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Foundation for the cure of breast cancer.


Revivals


True Vine “E” Missionary Baptist Church, 1001 W. Second Ave., will host its fall revival at 7 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, Oct. 25-27. The guest evangelist will be the Rev. Steven King, pastor of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church.


Special events


New Hope CME Church, 901 E. 21st Ave., will hold its annual ushers’ program and Annie McCray Harvest Tea at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Amelio Howard, pastor of Grace Temple Missionary Baptist Church.


New Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, 1026 Missouri St., will host the ushers’ annual day at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22. The guest speaker will be the Rev. James Murry, pastor of Gospel Temple Missionary Baptist Church.


New Home Missionary Baptist Church, 3000 S. Orange St., will sponsor its family and friends day at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22.


Mount Nebo Missionary Baptist Church, 3201 W. Second Ave., will host the Board Meeting of the Consolidated St. Marion Baptist District Association at 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22. The new proposed District Constitution will be presented. All active pastors and churches are encouraged to attend.


Greater Deliverance Global Ministry, 2215 E. Harding Ave., and the bishop, Shirley Sanders, will host a prophetic prayer gathering. Speakers include Pat Johnson at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20.
