DERMOTT — An Environmental Quality Incentive Program (EQIP) information meeting will be held from noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 14, at the Dermott City Hall meeting room.

The EQIP sign up for 2018 projects ends on Nov. 17. The meeting is aimed at row crop producers, vegetable growers and livestock ranchers in Ashley, Chicot, Desha and Drew counties, according to a press release from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff School of Agriculture, Fisheries and Human Sciences.

Participants will learn how to qualify for EQIP cost share funding for conservation practices such as poly pipe installation, soil testing, deep tillage to break up hardpans and land leveling.

Livestock producers will determine their eligibility for cost share funds for watering facilities, weed or brush control, rotational grazing and heavy use areas (putting gravel around feeding and watering areas as well as for roads), according to the release.

Socially disadvantaged, beginning and limited resource farmers are eligible for an increased payment rate and may receive an advance payment of up to 50 percent to purchase materials and services to implement conservation practices in their EQIP plan, according to the release.
