Newly-formed non-profit First Sisters Outreach, Inc. and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated-Delta Omega Omega Chapter have partnered together to reach out to the student scholars at Forest Park/Greenville Pre-K and Head start campus located in the Pine Bluff School District, according to a news release.
One hundred forty seven student scholars were recently given backpacks loaded with child friendly, nutritious meals and snacks for the weekend. Parents were also given information about healthy food choices, shopping on a budget and easy fun meal ideas.
This intent was to promote Alpha Kappa Alpha Target III-Family Strengthening program while providing weekend meals to children to alleviate childhood hunger. According to Feeding America: Childhood Food-Insecurity Report by State (2015 data), Arkansas ranks 2nd in the nation for childhood hunger.
October was set aside to inform, support and reach out to young children and their families. The backpacks and food were made possible through a grant from Synergy Forum, Inc., members of First Sisters Outreach, Inc. and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated-Delta Omega Omega Chapter.
Before leaving the campus the Family Strengthening committee members were complimented by Principal Marceinia Peoples on a job well done of organizing, packing and distributing the weekend back packs.
First Sisters Outreach, Incorporated is a non-profit organization founded on July 28, 2016.
According to Board President Chandra Griffin, “The purpose of First Sisters Outreach, Incorporated is to serve as a community organization that supports programs focused on the needs of youth, young adults, and families in the Pine Bluff Community.”
