Mary Frances “Dolly” Cummings Brumett, 90, of Pine Bluff, died Sunday, November 5, 2017 at Trinity Village.

She was born September 5, 1927 in Cabot, daughter of William P. and Amanda Malcom Cummings.

Mrs. Brumett was reared and received her early education in Lonoke County, graduating from Fairview High School. Her love for children showed in her work as a teacher’s aide in both private schools and Lonoke Public Schools for 22 years.

Mary and her husband, Joe Allen Brumett, loved square dancing and were heavily involved in the Arkansas State Square Dancing Federation. After moving to Pine Bluff, she became a member of Immanuel Baptist Church and a member of Eastern Star Chapter #421.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Allen Brumett, whom she married June 7, 1946 in Lonoke; ten brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include her son, William A. “Bill” Brumett (Judy) of Pine Bluff; two daughters, Mary Ruth Rankin (Randy) of Little Rock and Tina Marie Mouser of Jonesboro; eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m., Tuesday, November 7, 2017 in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson and Son with Dr. Ed Simpson officiating. Burial will follow in Graceland Cemetery.

Geraldine Sparks

WARREN - Geraldine Powell Sparks, age 95, of Warren, Ark., died Sunday, November 5, at Chapel Woods Health and Rehabilitation in Warren, Ark. Geraldine was born September 25, 1922, in Hermitage, Ark., a daughter of the late Robert Buford Powell and Susan Blanche Sharp Powell. She was retired from L’aigle Creek Conservation District, a member of First Baptist Church and the widow of Oscar O. Sparks, Jr., who died October 25, 1975. They were united in marriage December 2, 1945. Also preceding her in death was an infant daughter Deborah Lynn Sparks.

Survivors are one son Ronnie Powell Sparks and spouse Sherry of Miramar Beach, Fla. One daughter Tonya Leigh Sparks of Tampa, Fla., two brothers, Bill Powell of Warren, Ark., and Rev. Kerry Powell of Newport, Tenn.; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday, November 9, at Frazer’s Chapel with Rev. David Watkins officiating. Burial is in Moseley Cemetery by Frazer’s Funeral Home. Visitation 6 - 8 p.m. Wednesday, November 8, at Frazer’s. Online guest register

Nicholas Brown

WHITE HALL - Nicholas Jerry Brown, 84, of White Hall, Ark., passed away Sunday, November 5, 2017, at his home.

Mr. Brown was born January 9, 1933, in Scott, Ark., a son of the late Nicholas Andrew and Bridgie Margaret Hilliard Brown. He was reared and received his education in Edinburg, Texas. He joined the United States Army in 1953 and served during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged from the United States Army in 1956. During his time in the service, he received the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, and the United Nations Medal. He moved to the Pine Bluff area in 1965.

Mr. Brown married Catherine Ann Prescott on December 3, 1965. Mrs. Brown passed away on December 3, 1992.

He attended Central Baptist Church in Pine Bluff and previously served The Lord at Dollarway Baptist Church and First Baptist Church of White Hall.

Mr. Brown is survived by his son, Paul Alan (Sheila) Brown of White Hall; daughter, Pamela Ann Ewell of White Hall; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four sisters, Barbara Smith of Sherwood, Texas, Ruby Ricketson of Center, Texas, Catherine Power of Galveston, Texas and Chrystine (John) Kelly of Orange Beach, Ala.; sister-in-law, Bonnie Brown of Sherwood; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife, Catherine Ann Brown, two brothers, Virgil Brown and Gerald E. Brown; and two sisters, Irene Fuller and Wanda Merriman.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, November 7, 2017, 6 to 8 PM, in the Chapel of Cranford Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, November 8, 2017, 10 AM, at Central Baptist Church with Reverend Jordan Ferris officiating. Burial will follow in Bellwood Cemetery in Pine Bluff.
