HOT SPRINGS - Alton “Snuffy” Spurlock, age 73, of Hot Springs, formerly of Pine Bluff, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 4, 2017.

He was born January 17, 1944 in Dermott, to the late Alvin Spurlock, who was killed during World War II and Opal Boyd Roberson. He was reared by his mother and step-father, Caney Roberson. Alton was a 1963 graduate of Glendale High School.

A United States Navy Veteran, Snuffy worked for the Cotton Belt Railroad for over 20 years. He was also a Deputy for the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department for more than 20 years, including civil and patrol divisions.

He and his wife later moved to Hot Springs, and he worked for the Hot Springs Village Police Department for 10 years.

Alton was a Baptist, a Master Mason, a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason, and a member of the York Rite. He had also been a DeMolay advisor and a member of the Sahara Shrine.

Snuffy never met a stranger, and always had a joke to tell people who crossed his path. He also never missed an opportunity to embarrass his children or grandchildren with a police siren.

In addition to his parents, Alton was also predeceased his sister, Virginia Herring; and a son-in-law, Randy King.

Survivors include his wife and the love of his life, Frances Bird Spurlock, whom he married on March 22, 1982; children, Jeff Spurlock, Sara Spurlock Vanderhorst, Laura King (Paul), and Pam Kolb (Paul); grandchildren, Vicki Cruz (Adrian), Jenny Rodriquez (Danny), David Spurlock (Bethany), Keegan Fowler, Jacob King (Lacy), Rachel King, Paul Louis Kolb, and Autumn Kolb; and ten great-grandchildren.

There will be a Memorial Gathering Sunday, November 12, 2017, 2 p.m. at Fuller Hale-South Funeral Chapel, with visitation following.

Rosemary Barbarotto

BARTLETT, TENN. - Rosemary Loretta Barbarotto, 71, of Bartlett, Tenn., formerly of Pine Bluff, Ark., died Saturday, November 4, 2017.

She was born December 20, 1945 in Pine Bluff, Ark., daughter of John Anthony Barbarotto and Mary Butcalis Barbarotto.

Rosemary was reared and received her early education in the St. Joseph Annunciation Academy through the 8th grade and graduated from Pine Bluff High School in 1963.

She worked in the grocery business for many years, first as a bookkeeper and later as a baker and clerk for Mad Butcher, Safeway and Brookshire’s before retiring as the kitchen manager at the Arkansas Department of Corrections.

Rosemary was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pine Bluff before moving to Bartlett, Tenn. in 2010. In Bartlett, she became a member of St. Ann Catholic Church.

She enjoyed crocheting blankets and playing word games, including Scrabble and Words with Friends.

Rosemary was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, John Anthony Barbarotto, Jr. and Charles Joseph Barbarotto.

Survivors include her son, Anthony Joseph Barbarotto (Cheri) of Bartlett, Tenn.; brother, Robert Louis Barbarotto of White Hall; grandchildren, Elizabeth Rose Gray (Josh) and Ashley Renee Barbarotto, both of Paducah, Ky.; step-grandchildren, Nicole Knott (Jason) of San Clemente, Calif. and Adam Fraprie (Kristina) of Irvine, Calif.; four great-grandchildren with one on the way; and her “little girl” dog, Tori.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m., Friday, November 10, 2017 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Joseph Marconi and Deacon Noel F. “Bud” Bryant officiating. Interment will follow in Graceland Cemetery. A Vigil service will be Thursday afternoon at 4:30 p.m. in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson and Son with Deacon Noel F. “Bud” Bryant officiating..

HASKELL - Reverend Charles T. “Mickey" Herring, age 84, of Haskell, Ark., formerly of White Hall, passed away Monday, November 6, 2017, at his home.

He was born October 15, 1933, in Pine Bluff, to Robert C. Herring, Sr. and Minnie E. Hildersheim Herring.

He was reared and educated in White Hall, graduating from White Hall High School.

Reverend Mickey Herring had pastored churches in Dumas, Newport and Mena, Ark. Besides pastoring he was a self-employed carpenter.

He enjoyed fishing and hunting. His greatest joy was calling ducks and turkeys.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margie A. Croft Herring; a son, Stan Herring; his parents and a brother, Billy L. Herring.

Survivors include his sons, Tommy W. Herring of Haskell, Carl R. Herring of Haskell, Stephen L. Herring; grandchildren, Charles Herring, III, Steve Herring, Jr., Carl Herring, Jr., Ashlea Kennedy, Tiffany Nelson, Lacey Sullivan; great-grandchildren, Emaelee Nelson, Addyson Kennedy, Ella Kennedy, Dutch Nelson, Collyn Sullivan; brothers, Robert C. Faye Mizell

CORNING - Faye Mizell, 90, of Corning passed away Nov. 7, 2017 at Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, Mo.

Mrs. Mizell was retired from Basler Electric where she was a blueprint supervisor. She was a member of the Red Hat Society, First Baptist Church in Corning and a past Matron of Order of the Eastern Star.

On April 6, 1947, she married Marion Lowell Mizell. He preceded her in death on Dec. 20, 2003.

Survivors include her son Les Mizell of Pine Bluff; grandchildren Jessica (Dan) Cline and Ashley (Derrick) Jacobs; and great grandson Felix.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents Peter Edwin and Goldie Bertha (Hicks) Fickert; brothers Claude and Tom Fickert; sisters Hilda Holland, Kate Wertenberger, and Christine Law; and grandson Christopher Blake Mizell.

Visitation will be Saturday from 1 to 2 p.m. at Ermert Funeral Home in Corning. Funeral service will follow at the funeral home with Rev. Josh Raspberry officiating. Burial will be in Corning Cemetery.

KILLEEN, TEXAS - Alice Nichols, age 77, of Killeen, TX, formerly of Pine Bluff, died Saturday, November 4, 2017.

Born October 5, 1940 at Ethel, Ark., she was a daughter of the late George Sanders and Daisy Brown Sanders.

Mrs. Nichols was a homemaker and of the Pentecostal faith.

Her husband, Jackie James Nichols predeceased her in 2001; her son, Jackie Nichols in 2016; and two siblings, George Sanders and Margaret Barnhart.

Survivors include a daughter, Debra McNulty; a sister, Shirley Edwards; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Graveside Services will be Friday, November 10, 2017, 2 p.m. at Pipkin Cemetery in Saline County by Fuller Hale-South Funeral Services.
