The University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff has released a video on the university entitled, “We Are the Pride.”

In the video, viewers will get a glimpse of the student experience at UAPB. Their testimonies will reveal what they mean by being part of the Pride. The history of the university is also mentioned, according to a news release.

“The birth of the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff did not come easily. Chartered in 1873 during the post Reconstruction era, the founder, Dr. Joseph Carter Corbin had to be the principal, superintendent, maintenance worker and instructor,” a spokesman said in the release.

“Corbin began the school with eight former slaves, armed with a dream to impact the future of education access for countless minorities in the state. Almost 145 years later, the institution has grown to an alumni base for more than 17,000 and has become a major economic engine in Pine Bluff, a major influence in the state of Arkansas, and a major impact in several sectors of industry,” according to the spokesman.

Some of the video’s topics include career readiness, jobs with high placement rates, internationally known aquaculture/fisheries program, summer bridge program, diversity in research and major elements of the culture of an HBCU (historically black college and university.)
