RUSSELLVILLE — University of Arkansas at Monticello football program saw six total student-athletes receive All-GAC selections with senior Jalen Tolliver earning Offensive Player of the Year as well, as was announced Tuesday.
Jalen not only earned himself the Great American Conference Offensive Player of the Year award, but was also an unanimous All-GAC First Team pick after his stellar season.
Arkansas-Monticello also saw two defensive players receive All-GAC First Team nods as defensive tackle Hakim Gray, and cornerback Jeremy Jackson were selected as well.
Sophomore safety Christian Jefferson earned a Second-Team selection, and wide-receiver Trevon Smith, and offensive lineman LaWayne Lenoir both were selected as All-GAC Honorable Mention picks.
Tolliver, a senior from Rayville, Louisiana, concluded the 2017 season with record breaking career totals at Arkansas-Monticello, as he broke both the all-time receiving yards and all-time receiving touchdown records this year. He was also tied for first in the nation in receiving touchdowns, and 12th overall in the country in receiving yards. Jalen finished first overall in the GAC in receiving yards (1,109), receiving touchdowns (16), total receptions (67), receptions per game (6.1), and receiving yards per game (100.8).
Gray, a junior from Shreveport, Louisiana, anchored the defensive front for the Weevils this season, totaling 3.0 total sacks and 9.5 tackles for a loss. Hakim ranked tied for 15th in sacks in the conference, and 10th overall in tackles for loss. He recorded 33 tackles on the year, with one pass broken up, two quarterback hurries, and one blocked kick.
Jackson, a senior from Hahnville, Louisiana, commanded the defensive secondary for UAM this past season as Jeremy not only led the GAC in total passes defended (18), but ranked tied for fourth in the nation in the stat category as well. Jackson made the switch from running back to defensive back this season and finished fifth on the team in total tackles with 40, and was tied for first on the squad in interceptions (2) as well.
Jefferson, a sophomore from El Dorado, Arkansas earn himself a Second-Team selection after leading the Weevils in total tackles with 79 on the year. Christian also ranked ninth in the GAC in tackles, and totaled a UAM high two interceptions this season. He added seven passes defended, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery to his stat-line as well.
Smith, a senior from Houma, Louisiana, finished second overall on the team in receptions (29), receiving yards (510), and receiving touchdowns (7). Trevon ended the season ranked third overall in the Great American Conference in receiving touchdowns as well, and turned in an average of 46.4 receiving yards per game in 2017.
Lenoir, a junior from Tylertown, Mississippi, earned himself a Honorable Mention selections after leading this UAM offensive line in 2017. LaWayne started 11 total games for the Weevils at right tackle and guided this offense which totaled over 2,200 rushing yards this past season, and 22 rushing touchdowns as well.
The Weevils finished the 2017 season with an overall record of 5-6 (5-6 GAC), and will look to continue to build off that improvement from a year ago heading into this off-season.
