Pine Bluff police are investigating the shooting death of a man in central Pine Bluff late Monday night, the second murder this month and the 23rd of the year in the city limits.

According to a press release from Pine Bluff Police Officer Richard Wegner, officers responded to the apartments at 1020 Linden Street just before midnight in response to a shooting.

Upon arriving they spoke with an individual who reported hearing a gunshot then finding 38-year-old Craig Shavers suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. Shavers was taken to JRMC, where he underwent treatment, then died of his wounds at about 8:50 a.m.

Jefferson County Coroner Chad Kelley said the body was sent to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory for analysis.

The incident is being investigated by the Pine Bluff Police Detective Division as a homicide.

No further information was immediately available as the investigation is in its early stages.

On Nov. 8, Willie Lee Oglesby Jr., 28, was found inside a vehicle in the 2900 block of West 29th Avenue suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body. He was pronounced dead at the scene. No arrests have been made in the slaying and the investigation into it is also continuing.
