The Arts & Science Center for Southeast Arkansas, 701 S. Main St., announced the following events for December:

Live @5 – Dec. 1; 5-7 p.m.

Live@5 for December will host the UAPB Jazz Ensemble. Live@5 features live music the first Friday of each month. The cost of the event is $5 for members and $10 for non-members. This event is for guests 21 or older. Live@5 is sponsored by MK Distributors.

FREE Second Saturday Family FunDay, Dec. 9; 1-3 p.m.

The center will host an afternoon exploring fabric and fashion. Participants will learn about the production of clothing and try dying, weaving, and draping. Students and faculty with the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff’s Merchandising, Textiles and Design (MTD) Program will lead these activities.

ASC’s Second Saturday Family FunDay program offers monthly hands-on arts and science activities in which visitors create art, complete science projects, or perform dance, music, or theater. Activities complement current art or science exhibitions. Activities are free and led by visiting artists, local art educators, and ASC staff. The event is free and everyone is invited to join the creativity.

Second Saturday Family FunDay is sponsored by the Pine Bluff Area Community Foundation, an affiliate office of the Arkansas Community Foundation Inc.

Creative Construction Zone open through Jan. 27, 2018

The Creative Construction Zone is now open at ASC. This new tinkering studio is geared toward preK – 3rd grade youth. Children can build-play with Imagination Playground Big Blue Blocks featuring “bricks and cylinders, accented with chutes, channels and parts that suggest motion or connectivity.” The Big Blue Blocks “inspire children to design their own inventions, environments and activities” while learning basic engineering and architectural design principles. The Creative Construction Zone also includes interactive construction-influenced play sets to add to the fun, simulation experience.

On Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m., ASC will host reading time in the Wonder Engineer literacy corner, another feature of the Creative Construction Zone. During reading time, youngsters will be entertained with stories about construction, engineering, and architecture, while fostering literacy and numeracy, and motor and creative thinking skills through accompanying hands-on activities. Creative Construction Zone is sponsored by the Junior League of Pine Bluff.
