The Pine Bluff Zebras basketball team rallied back for a 60-58 victory against the Conway Wampus Cats on Saturday at the North Little Rock Thanksgiving Showcase.

Kaezron Washington scored the first six points for Pine Bluff in his first start at the varsity level.

The Zebras led 11-10 after the first quarter and looked to push the tempo. Kendrick Thorn Jr. had nine points in the second quarter, but Conway took a 24-22 lead into halftime.

The Wampus Cats started the second half with a 7-0 run to increase their lead to 31-22. However, Thorn Jr. stayed hot and erupted for 10 points in the third quarter to keep the Zebras close.

Pine Bluff went on an 8-0 run to end the quarter, starting with a layup by Thorn Jr., followed by back to back three-pointers from Daedrian White and Kaleb Higgins.

With the Zebras down 46-42 to start the fourth quarter, Conway’s foul trouble put Pine Bluff in the bonus to shoot free throws. The Zebras made 12 of their 18 free throws in the fourth quarter to keep them in the game.

Justin Tillar made a three-point basket to start a run for the Zebras. Higgins matched Tillar with a three-pointer of his own to cut the lead to 58-56.

Washington was fouled and made two free throws to tie the game, and Higgins nailed two free throws to give Pine Bluff the lead and the win.

Thorn Jr. led the way for the Zebras with 21 points and four steals. Higgins finished with 10 points, and Washington finished with nine points and eight rebounds.
