The Civic Auditorium and Complex Commission has hired Joseph McCorvey to be the new executive director of the Pine Bluff Convention Center.
Commissioners LaTasha Woods, Tyra Johnson, Lisa Kosmitis, Gary Wilson and Ethel Cogshell voted to hire McCorvey at a Nov. 20 meeting. McCorvey was most recently the Summit County, Ohio, Office of Consumer Affairs outreach specialist, according to applications The Commercial obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request.
Twenty-six people applied for the position, which became vacant in March when then-director Bob Purvis retired. As a result of Purvis’ departure, Pine Bluff Convention Center Director of Marketing and Events Sheri Storie became the Convention Center interim executive director. Storie did not take part in the search for a permanent director.
The Civic Auditorium and Complex Commissioners oversee the operations of the Pine Bluff Convention Center. Commissioners are appointed by the mayor and approved by the city council. Commissioners are not paid for their service. Commissioners Monique Benford and Wil Jenkins were absent. McCorvey will start his new job on Jan. 2, 2018, and report to the commissioners.
