A 21-year-old Gould woman was killed Sunday in a two-vehicle accident on Interstate 530.
According to a preliminary report from the Arkansas State Police, Destiny Jones was a passenger in a car that was southbound in the inside lane when it collided with a second car that was southbound in the outside traffic lane, causing the vehicle she was in to leave the roadway and overturn several times.
Jones was ejected from the vehicle. Jefferson County Coroner Chad Kelley said Jones was taken to Jefferson Regional Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead by a doctor in the emergency room at 5:21 a.m. The cause of death was listed as blunt force trauma.
Kelley said the body was sent to Serenity Gardens Funeral Home at Dumas. The preliminary report indicated that there was one person injured, but the report does not indicate who that person was or the extent of their injuries. The accident was reported at 4:13 a.m. at Mile Marker 44, and according to Trooper Kevin Helm, the weather was clear and the roadway dry at the time.
This was the 456th death reported on the state’s highways so far this year.
