The Arts & Science Center for Southeast Arkansas, 701 S. Main St., will feature demonstrations on textiles with Faculty and students of the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.
The Family FunDay, will be held from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9. The event is free and open to the public.
UAPB’s Merchandising, Textiles and Design Program will host the “Fabrics and Fashion” workshop.
Participants will learn how textiles are converted from fibers into yarn and then into final products that are dyed, Professor Kaye Crippen of the MTD Department said. Hands-on activities include hand weaving, dyeing and fashion design using small-scale dress forms.
“This will be a great opportunity for local children and youth to learn about textiles and fashion and try their hand at creating simple textile designs,” she said. “We look forward to working with students so they gain a familiarity of textile sciences and fashion design, and perhaps someday consider educational or career opportunities in the field.”
ASC’s Second Saturday Family FunDay program offers monthly hands-on arts and science activities in which visitors create art, complete science projects or perform dance, music or theater.
