The White Hall Bulldogs held off the Searcy Lions for an 82-81 victory on Tuesday night.

Devin Koonce scored the first basket for the Bulldogs, and Quentin Urqhart went coast-to-coast for a basket to take an early 4-0 lead over the Lions.

After trailing 17-10, Searcy fought back to cut the lead after two straight three-pointers from Freddy Hicks.

After trading baskets to begin the game, the Bulldogs led Searcy 19-17 after the first quarter. White Hall started the second quarter on a 9-2 run to create a gap in the scoring.

Searcy would later display their shooting range as Cade Riggan nailed a couple of three-point baskets. Riggan was also fouled on a made layup and made the free throw for a three-point play.

The Bulldogs showed off their range as well, including back-to-back three-pointers from Tylin Walker and Jabin Gulley to hold a 35-31 lead. Koonce added a three-pointer of his own to give White Hall a 38-31 lead.

Likewise, Hicks scored 8 straight points for Searcy, including two three-point baskets to spark a 13-5 run to end the half and give the Lions a 44-43 lead at halftime.

In the third quarter, there were five lead changes between the two teams. Hicks had 16 points in the first half for Searcy, but unfortunately got in foul trouble and was limited minutes in the quarter.

White Hall would take advantage of Hicks’ absence as Jabbari Blackmon and Koonce combined for 14 of the Bulldogs 22 points in the quarter to take a 65-61 lead heading into the final quarter.

The Bulldogs started the fourth on an 11-4 run, taking a 78-65 lead over the Lions with under four minutes remaining in the game.

However, the Lions did not give up. Hicks scored six straight points to spark a 10-0 run to put Searcy back in the game as they cut the deficit down to 78-75.

Hicks fouled out after fouling Zavion Williams to put him at the free throw line where he made one out of two free throws. Walker then got a clutch steal and made a layup to give the Bulldogs an 81-75 lead.

After a timeout for Searcy, Trystan Alcorn was fouled on a three-point shot attempt and made every free throw to bring the Lions within three points.

With under 10 seconds remaining in the game, Walker was fouled and went to the free throw line where he made one free throw to make it a two-possession game.

Alcorn drove the ball down to court to nail a tough three-point shot for the Lions, but time expired after his release on the shot to give the Bulldogs an 82-81 win.

The Bulldogs were led by Koonce, who had 19 points in the game. Blackmon and Urqhart finished with 16 and 15 points, respectively.

Hicks led the way for Searcy with a game-high of 32 points; Alcorn added 19 points in the loss.
