At about 5:20 p.m. Tuesday, Pine Bluff police responded to the area of 23rd Avenue and Olive Street in reference to a pedestrian being struck be a vehicle. Officers found 58-year-old Frederick Rice in the northbound lanes of traffic. He was transported to the emergency room of Jefferson Regional Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.

Witnesses reported that Rice was struck by three vehicles during the incident. The first two left the scene, but the third stopped and is cooperating with the investigation. No charges are expected against the third driver.

At the time of the collision, it was dark and during a period of heavy rain.

The initial investigation indicates that a white passenger car may have been one of the two vehicles that fled the scene.
