Linda Rapada

Linda Mae Haltom Rapada, 82 of Grapevine, formerly of White Hall, passed away, Saturday, December 23, 2017.

Born January 17, 1935 at Arkadelphia, she was a daughter of the late William Ervin Haltom and Virginia Page Haltom.

Mrs. Rapada was a homemaker in the truest since of the word, as family and friends were her world. When not spoiling grandchildren she enjoyed sewing, quilting and crocheting.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 54 years, Stanley R. Rapada; and two brothers, Ronald and Raymond Haltom.

She is survived by her sons, Stanley J. Rapada (Joanie) and Don Rapada; daughters, Patricia Hopkins (Danny), Debra Davis (Rex) and Juanan Whiteaker (Mark); a brother, Jimmy Haltom (Frances); 10 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and many other loving family and friends.

Private graveside services will be held in Bethlehem Cemetery at Joan, Ark. (Clark County).

Collierville, TN- Mr. Joe Cephas Smith, 91, of Collierville, TN (formerly of Little Rock, AR) passed away on December 26, 2017. Mr. Smith graduated from Dallas County Training School, Fordyce, AR in 1945. He received a Bachelor of Science from Arkansas AM&N in 1952. He also received a Master of Education from the University of AR.

Mr. Smith was employed as a teacher for 17 years. He ended his career as a District Director for the Agricultural Stabilization Conservation Service.

Mr. Smith was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. He loved God, his family, golf, gardening and his fraternity, Kappa Alpha Psi, Inc. where he was a member for 68 years.

He leaves his wife, Mary Scott Smith. He also leaves his sister, Sara (James W., deceased) Hall, Fordyce, AR; three children, Ron (Veronica Harvey) Brown, Cordova, TN, Marylyn (Delton) Washington, Collierville, TN, and Reginald (Lois) Smith, Leawood, KS; seven grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren and two great, great grandchildren.

Visitation will be Tuesday, January 2, 2018 at 10:00 A.M., followed by the Kappa Alpha Psi Memorial Service at 10:30 A.M. with the funeral beginning at 11:00 A.M. at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 3323 West 12th Street, Little Rock, AR by Judge Wendell Griffin. Dr. Frank H. Poindexter

New York, New York - Dr. Frank H. Poindexter, age 65, passed away Friday, December 1, 2017. Frank was born on June 15, 1952 in Pine Bluff, Ark. to Frank and Cora Belle Poindexter. Frank graduated from Dollarway HS in 1971 and received a Bachelor of Music Education from the University of Central Arkansas in 1976 and completed his Master's Degree in Music Education from the University of Central Arkansas in 1979. Frank taught music at Mt. St. Mary High School in Little Rock, Ark. from 1976-1981. After moving to New York in 1984, Frank completed a Master of Education in 1988 and Master of Arts in 1989 from Columbia University. Frank then studied the art of Organ Registration and Composition and received his Doctor of Education from Columbia University in 1990. During his career as a musician, Frank was the Principal Organist at several churches and cathedrals in NYC. Frank is survived by his three sisters, Gwen Henry, White Hall, Ark., Cathy Walker, White Hall, Ark., and Carole Grace Kozak, Little Rock, Ark. and three nephews, Seth Henry, Huntsville, Ala., Drew Walker, Fayetteville, Ark., and Caleb Mazzanti, White Hall, Ark. and a niece, Allison Mazzanti, Conway, Ark. A memorial service for Frank was held at the Church of the Mediator, Bronx, NY on December 6, 2017.

Willie Lee Simpson

was born September 7, 1923 to the parentage of Eugene and Willie Gertrude Hill in Cornerstone, Ark.

Willie was a member of the Pine Hill Missionary Baptist Church.

On Friday, the evening, December 22, 2017 Willie Lee Simpson, departed this life.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m., Saturday at Pine Hill Missionary Baptist Church. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery by the P.K. Miller Mortuary. Visitation was held from 5-7 p.m. at the mortuary on Thursday Mrs. Simpson will lie in repose at the church on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of service.

Larry Harris

Larry Wayne Harris of Sheridan, Ark. died peacefully on Tuesday, December 26, 2017 at his home on his 70th birthday. He was born December 26, 1947 in Pine Bluff, Ark., the youngest of 13 children born to the late Ivy and Vida Tackett Harris.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, J.B., Bobby, Glen, and Jerry; sisters, Velma, Helen, Wanda, and Patsy, an infant son, Auston and his father-in-law, Truitt Smith.

He was a graduate of Sheridan High School, a member of the American Legion, and an active member of First Landmark Baptist Church in Sheridan, where he served his Lord faithfully as an usher and greeter. He had served his country in the US Army for 13 years, having fought in the Vietnam War. He received the Bronze Star and was awarded the Army Commendation with Valor. He had just retired in November from the Pine Bluff Arsenal as a hazardous material handler.

Larry was an avid sport enthusiast, never missing a Sheridan Yellowjacket ball game or an Arkansas Razorback game. He enjoyed watching sports on TV and spending time with his family.

Survivors: wife, Bonnie Sue Smith Harris of Sheridan; sons, Michael (Schellee) Harris of Amarillo, Texas, Shelton Harris of Las Vegas, Nev.; daughter, Missy (Shawn) Johnson of Hensley; sisters, Bea Demetrulias of Cahokia, Ill., Betty Sebourn of Mabelvale, Barbara Walker of Prattsville; mother-in-law, Jerri Smith of Sheridan; grandchildren, Britni Harris and Shawn Johnson, Jr., and a host of nieces, nephews, church family and friends.

Funeral service will be 2:00 P.M. today, December 29, 2017 at Memorial Gardens Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Shawn Hill officiating. . Burial will follow at Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Visitation: 12:30 until service time also at the funeral home.
