Pine Bluff Interested Citizens for Voter Registration Inc. has announced the following activities for the 34th annual Original Kingfest:
Tuesday, Jan. 9 — At noon, the Original Kingfest kickoff will be held at the Pine Bluff Country Club. The joint meeting with the Pine Bluff Rotary Club and West Pine Bluff Rotary Club will feature Ryan Watley, chief executive officer of Go Forward Pine Bluff.
Wednesday, Jan. 10 — Student Pledge against Violence Day will be held at Pine Bluff, Watson Chapel, White Hall and Dollarway School Districts.
Thursday, Jan. 11 – PBICVR Pen or Pencil MLK Birthday Bash will be presented at Robert Morehead Middle School, Watson Chapel and Jack Robey junior high schools. Speakers are Jack Robey Junior High School: Lawrence T. Williams, vice president of the student council; Watson Chapel; CeAnna Blunt, Miss Watson Chapel; Morehead: Jordan Sims, PEN OR PENCIL alumni and graduate of Dollarway High School.
Friday, Jan. 12 – At 6:30 p.m., PBICVR Original Kingfest Youth/Adult Gospel Extravaganza will be presented at Mt. Nebo Missionary Baptist Church, 3201 W. Second Ave.
Saturday, Jan. 13 – Original Kingfest Youth/Adult Community Service Day Youth-led Community Service Projects will be conducted at Salvation Army and Neighbor to Neighbor.
Sunday, Jan. 14 — At 6 p.m.., Pine Bluff’s Justice Sunday Exclusive Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemoration Program will be held at First Missionary Baptist Church, 4500 Faucett Road. The keynote speaker will be Fitzgerald Hill, executive director of the Arkansas Baptist College Foundation and The Scott Ford Center for Leadership and Community Development. Music provided by The Men in Black.
Monday, Jan. 15 – At 2 p.m., the 34th Original Kingfest Parade/Marade will be conducted on Main Street in downtown Pine Bluff. Chancellor Laurence B. Alexander of the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff will be the grand marshal. Parade/marade participants will line up at the Jefferson County Courthouse at 1 p.m. The route will proceed south on Main Street to Eighth Avenue and end at the Convention Center. The deadline for parade applications is Thursday, Jan. 11. Applications are available at PBICVR at the Donald W. Reynolds Community Services Center, 211 W. The event will also include the third annual MLK/Lorenzo Smith Battle of the Bands. The Pine Bluff Police Department will provide refreshments for youth at the Convention Center after the Parade/Marade.
