The Pine Bluff Zebras came out on top in a close conference game against the Sheridan Yellowjackets by a score of 39-36 on Friday night.
Sheridan started the game with a 7-0 lead after a three-pointer and layup from Tyler Cleveland and two free throws from Tyler Cacciatori.
However, Kendrick scored 10 of the Zebras’ 11 first quarter points, including three baskets from behind the arc, to give Pine Bluff an 11-10 lead over Sheridan after the first quarter.
Both team traded baskets in the second quarter, and the game was tied up 20-20 at halftime.
The Zebras started the third quarter on a 7-2 run after a layup from both Harris Martin and Jyrimee Thompson, followed by a three-pointer from Kaleb Higgins.
Cacciatori scored six straight points for the Yellowjackets to cut the lead to 28-27. The Zebras increased their lead to 32-27 at the end of the third quarter.
With a little amount of time left in the final quarter, Martin put the Zebras ahead 37-31 on a layup.
Cleveland made a layup for the Yellowjackets, but Thorn made two clutch free throws to make it a two-possession game with under 10 seconds left in the game.
The Pine Bluff Fillies were defeated by the Sheridan Lady Yellowjackets in their conference opener on Friday night by a score of 55-32.
In the first quarter, the Fillies took an early 6-3 lead over Sheridan after Keirria Brice nailed a pair of free throws, while Or’Lexis Lane and Jaidan Woods both added a basket.
Sheridan ended the quarter on a 7-0 run before starting the second quarter on a 7-2 run to take a 17-8 lead midway through the second quarter.
Brice made a mid-range jumper, and Ro Willis added a three-pointer to cut the Yellowjackets’ lead down to 17-13.
Lane added a layup and a free throw for the Fillies, but Sheridan took a 21-16 lead at halftime.
Savannah Howard made two free throws for Sheridan before Brice made a three-pointer for Pine Bluff to cut the lead down to 23-19.
Diamond Morris scored the next eight points of the game to put the Lady Yellowjackets ahead 31-19 midway through the third quarter.
Brice nailed another three-pointer for the Fillies and also scored a layup to keep pace with Sheridan, but the Lady Yellowjackets held a 37-26 lead after the third quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Sarah Moore added a pair of three-pointers, and Sheridan outscored Pine Bluff 18-6 in the fourth quarter to earn their first conference victory.
Keirria Brice led the Fillies with 14 points, and Talah Hunter added six points.
Diamond Morris had a game-high of 19 points to lead the way for Sheridan.
Cleveland then made a three-pointer at the buzzer, but it wasn’t enough, as Pine Bluff claimed the victory.
For Pine Bluff, Thorn led the way with 14 points, followed by Martin with eight points.
Cleveland led the way for Sheridan with 16 points; Cacciatori added 13 points.
