Judge Morris S. “Buzz” Arnold of the United States Court of Appeals will be the guest speaker for the winter meeting of the Jefferson County Historical Society.


The meeting will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 14, at the Pine Bluff-Jefferson County Historical Museum, West 4th Avenue and State Street.


Arnold, of Little Rock, is a senior judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit, which includes Arkansas, Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota.


According to a news release, he has written several books on Colonial Arkansas, including Colonial Arkansas, 1686-1804: A Social and Cultural History (1991), The Rumble of a Distant Drum: Quapaws and Old World Newcomers, 1673-1804 (2000), and The Arkansas Post of Louisiana (2017), all published by the University of Arkansas Press.


Arnold will present “Colonial Arkansas Women: French and Indian.” The public is invited to attend.
