Clora Markham Johnson departed this wonderful life on December 16, 2017, in Union City, Georgia at the age of 79, after a long illness with Alzheimers.

Ms. Johnson formerly lived in Pine Bluff before she became ill and moved to Atlanta, Georgia with her daughter, Felecia M. Sanders in 2011.

She was employed at Dillard’s in the Men’s Department and became a Pacesetter due to her outstanding sales.

She also attended Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church where she sang in the Senior Choir.

Ms. Johnson’s Celebration of Life Service was held on December 30, 2017 at Murray Brothers Funeral Home, 1199 Utoy Springs Rd, SW, Atlanta, Georgia 30331.

She was survived by a loving family and friends; 3 daughters, Felecia Markham Sanders, (Jimmy ); Jennifer Russell, (the Late Clinton Russell ) and Lillian LaFaye Grant, (Charlie ); 3 Sisters, Ethel Hadley, Shirley Warfield, Delores Fields and 1 Brother, James Markham. She had 7 Grandchildren, 10 Great-grandchildren; 1 Aunt, Lilly Townsend and a host of Neices, Nephews and Cousins.

Mrs. Erma Holmes, 81, of Pine Bluff, Ark. passed January 7, 2018. Arrangements will be announced by Brown Funeral Home of Pine Bluff, AR.

Marie Sala

Salton City, Calif. - Marie Lowery Sala, formerly of Pine Bluff and the “Y” Community in Cleveland County, passed away Friday, December 29, 2017 at Salton City, CA.

Born December 14, 1941 at Foreman, AR, she was a daughter of the late George Lowery and Ethel Brown Lowery. She moved to California in May of 1954, graduated from Coachella Valley Union High School, and later studied accounting in college.

Marie moved to Pine Bluff in June of 1985 and began a long career with Arkansas Mill Supply Company, where she worked in accounting. She retired in January of 2014.

She was a past-president of the Desert Oasis Legal Secretaries Association and the American Business Women’s Association. Marie was an active and dedicated member of Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church in Cleveland County, and was a certified Lay Servant for the United Methodist Church.

She married Wayne Sala in 1977 in Indio, CA, and he predeceased her on June 10, 2004. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, William C. Lowery and Charles C. Lowery; and by three sisters, Mary Ollie Lowery, Barbara J. Lowery Kelly, and Joann Ross.

Survivors include three daughters, Cheryl Ortega of Indio, CA, Deborah Diaz of Kingman, AZ, and Cynthia Underwood of Salton City, CA; a son, Curtis A. Patterson, Jr. of Kingman, AZ; two step-daughters, Sandra Teets of Grapeland, TX and Beverly Ducatte of Indio, CA; a step-son, Rick Sala of San Luis Obispo, CA; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation for Marie will be Saturday, January 13, 2018, beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Fuller Hale-South Funeral Chapel in Pine Bluff. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Brother Don Johnson and Brother Ike Moore officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery.

Holly Baker

Holly L. Baker, 57, of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, passed away January 4, 2018.

She was born February 17, 1960, in Pine Bluff, to W.A. Baker, Jr and Joyce Rogers Baker.

Mrs. Baker was a Special Education Teacher for the Pine Bluff School District. Mrs. Baker was an avid reader. She loved children and had a fondness for cats. Mrs. Baker was of the Methodist faith.

Mrs. Baker is survived by two brothers, Spencer Baker and wife, Polly of Little Rock, W. A. Baker III of Elizabeth City, North Carolina; nephews, William Baker and wife Kristen of Dallas, Texas and Nicholas Baker of Little Rock.

In lieu of flowers the family request that donations be made to the Jefferson County Humane Society, P.O. Box 2233, Pine Bluff, Arkansas 71613-2233.

A Memorial service will be 1 PM, Wednesday, January 10, 2018, Chapel of Ralph Robinson & Son with Reverend John Bean officiating with visitation following the service.

Interment will be private.

Walter Triplett

BETHEL HEIGHTS - Walter Edward Triplett, 82, of Bethel Heights, formerly of Pine Bluff, passed peacefully, in his sleep, early Saturday morning, January 6, 2018.

He was born into this world on October 9, 1935 in Pine Bluff, son of Walter N. and Eva Mae Triplett. Walter was reared and received his early education in Pine Bluff, graduating from Pine Bluff High School in 1953. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from Arkansas A&M (now the University of Arkansas at Monticello) in industrial engineering. He also served in the National Guards. Upon graduation, he went to work for Varco Pruden as a draftsman and retired after 34 years of service as Vice President/General Manager.

He was a life-long member of Immanuel Baptist Church, the Jacob Brump Masonic Lodge and Sahara Shrine Temple. Walter also served as an Alderman for the City of Pine Bluff for 14 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bobby Triplett; and sister, Mary Alice Johnston.

Walter dearly loved his family and many friends. Walter’s dearest loved ones are, Myrtle Huett Triplett, whom he married May 31, 1958 in Pine Bluff; two sons, Stephen Triplett and Jeffrey Triplett (Amanda), both of Bethel Heights; two daughters, Rebecca “Becky” Featherston (Randy) and Jennifer Beard, both of Rogers; brother, Charles Triplett of Pine Bluff; and five grandchildren, Blake, Dylan and Kailee Triplett and Josh and Megan Beard.

While we will genuinely miss our husband, father, and friend, we do take great solace in knowing where he is now. We didn’t lose him because we all know exactly where he is and we eagerly look forward to being together again.

A celebration of Walter’s life will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 10, 2018 in the Chapel of Ralph Robinson and Son with Dr. Don Taylor officiating. Interment will follow in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 5-7 p.m. at Robinson’s.
