The Pine Bluff Fillies battled back to claim a victory over the Sheridan Lady Yellowjackets by a score of 47-45 on Friday night.
In the first meeting, Sheridan dominated Pine Bluff in a blowout win by a score of 55-32.
However, the Fillies showed up with a chip on their shoulder this time, looking forward to a better outcome.
Or'Lexis Lane scored the first four points for Pine Bluff as they took a 4-2 lead over Sheridan early in the first quarter.
Later in the first quarter, Diamond Morris scored seven straight points that, along with a triple from Sarah Moore, put Sheridan ahead 12-4 after the 10-0 run.
Jaidan Woods added a score for Pine Bluff, and after another basket from Sheridan, Lane added another score for the Fillies.
The Lady Yellowjackets led after the first quarter 14-8, but the Fillies never went away.
After a pair of free throws for Sheridan, Lane scored four more points for Pine Bluff to keep it close at 16-12.
Before the end of the half, Bre Gray made two easy baskets for the Fillies to cut the Yellowjackets’ lead down to 23-20 heading into halftime.
Sheridan started the third quarter on a 5-0 run to extend the lead to 28-20, but the Zebras traded baskets with the Lady Yellowjackets and came as close as 32-28.
Near the end of the third quarter, Savannah Howard nailed a three-pointer for Sheridan, and Ro Willis retaliated with a three-pointer of her own, making the score 37-31.
After a basket from Lane to start the fourth quarter for the Fillies, Jaidan Woods scored six straight points to give the Fillies their first lead since the start of the game.
With under two minutes left in the game, the Fillies were trailing by two points before Keirria Brice scored on a mid-range jumper to tie the game at 45-45.
On the Fillies’ next possession, Brice made a tough layup to give her team the lead that would eventually win the game for Pine Bluff.
Lane led Pine Bluff with 16 points, while Brice and Woods added eight points a piece.
The Pine Bluff Zebras used a huge second half to defeat the Sheridan Yellowjackets by a score of 71-46 on Friday night.
Sheridan scored the first six point of the game to take a 6-0 lead to start.
Two baskets from Darius Morris got the Zebras on the board, and after scores from Sheridan Tyler Cacciatori, Kaleb Higgins and Harris Martin, both scored a basket to tie the game at 8-8.
Sheridan held a 13-11 lead after the first quarter, but the Zebras later gained the lead and never looked back.
Kendrick Thorn nailed a three-pointer for Pine Bluff, and Justin Tillar added two scores as well to give the Zebras a 18-13 lead.
Thorn added a three-point play to the Zebras total, and Higgins later added a triple to give Pine Bluff a 24-18 lead.
Pine Bluff continued their scoring display and went into halftime with a 39-27 lead.
The Zebras started the second half on a 9-0 run to increase their lead to 48-29.
Matthew White scored six straight points for the Yellowjackets, and after a score from Pine Bluff, Cacciatori scored four more points to cut the lead down to 50-37.
Thorn scored in the last few seconds of the third quarter to give the Zebras a 52-37 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
Defensive stops and a solid offense helped the Zebras outscore the Yellowjackets 19-9 in the fourth quarter to claim a victory.
Morris led with 16 points for the Zebras. Thorn added 15 points, and Higgins added 14 points for Pine Bluff as well.
