The Pine Bluff Regional Chamber of Commerce held a reception to welcome Steven Bloomberg, the new President of Southeast Arkansas College Wedesday afternoon.

Bloomberg was previously the Executive Vice President at Oklahoma City Community College. In addition, he was the Vice President for Community Development at Oklahoma City Community College. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration from the University of LaVerne in California, a Master’s in Education from West Texas A&M University in Texas, and is currently finishing his Doctorate in Higher Education Leadership from the American College of Education in Indiana.

Bloomberg says that it has been wonderful adjusting to the city. “My wife and I feel like this is where we’re supposed to be,” said Bloomberg. “Pine Bluff is a great place and we’re here to make SEARK an even more powerful part of the city.”

Bloomberg said that engaging with the community and getting to know everyone is the aspect of his job that he is most looking forward to. “We are a community college. Our success is tied to our community, so we have to be embedded in our community,” said Bloomberg.

The faculty and staff at Southeast Arkansas College are happy to have Bloomberg as the new president and are looking forward to the new ideas and fresh perspective he brings to the college.

“He’s doing an amazing job! He hit the ground running! The food pantry is a project that had been in the works for a couple years, and Mr. Bloomberg came right in and solidified it,” said Barbra Dunn, Director of Recruitment at SEARK.

When asked if he has any other major projects he’s working on, Blommberg said, “I have three new projects that I am working on that will be focused directly on getting our students through the educational pipeline, getting them graduated, and then on to a great job or maybe on to UAPB. We are going to be doing some really innovative things at SEARK.”
