The Arkansas Department of Health regulates the sale of food at establishments which include restaurants, bars, daycares, schools, grocery stores, convenience stores, bed and breakfast facilities, hotels/motels, mobile units and concession stands. Inspections are made unannounced by environmental health specialists.

The following are the results of food safety inspections conducted by the Jefferson County Health Unit:


• HR Food Mart, 201 Edline St., Altheimer. Date of inspection Jan. 25. Provide hand-wash sinks as necessary for convenient use by employees in food preparation and ware-washing areas and toilet rooms.


• Jack Robey Junior High School, 4101 Olive St. Date of inspection Jan. 25. Some hot holding temperatures out of safe temperature range (must be 135 degrees F or above). Observed packaged raw steaks being stored directly on packaged, precooked chicken. Raw steaks should be stored separate from precooked foods. Raw steaks were moved below precooked foods during inspection.


• Kwik Chek, 800 N. Bryant St. Date of inspection Jan. 24. A hand-washing sink shall be maintained so that it is accessible at all times for employee use, and do not use for purposes other than handwashing.


• Shipley’s Donuts, 5916 Dollarway Road. Date of inspection Jan. 24. A hand-washing sink shall be maintained so that it is accessible at all times for employee use, and do not use for purposes other than handwashing.


• La Estrellita Tienda Mexicana, 28th Ave. Rodrigo Cano. Date of inspection Jan. 23. A hand-washing sink shall be maintained so that it is accessible at all times for employee use, and do not use for purposes other than handwashing.


• Main Street Food Mart, 1620 Main St. Date of inspection Jan. 23. Need paper towels at hand-washing sink in restroom.


• Sahara Shrine Center, 820 S. Main St. Date of inspection Jan. 23. Paper towels needed at hand-washing sink in kitchen.


• Exxon One Stop, 2901 W. 28th Ave. Date of inspection Jan. 22. Some cold-holding temperatures in back walk-in cooler are out of safe temperature range (must be 41 degrees F or below). Some hot-holding temperatures are out of safe temperature range (must be 135 degrees F or above). Paper towels needed at all hand-washing sinks.


• Kentucky Fried Chicken, 2707 W. 28th Ave. Date of inspection Jan. 22. Observed pot pies in refrigerator being stored uncovered. Pot pies in refrigerator should be covered to prevent them from contamination. Pot pies were covered during inspection.


• Papa John’s Pizza, 3800 Camden Road, #310. Date of inspection Jan. 22. Hand-washing sink should be used for hand washing.


• Subway, 1620 A Main St. Date of inspection Jan. 19. Chemical bottle observed being stored on shelf where food is located. Chemicals should be stored separated from food. Chemical bottle was moved to chemical area during inspection.
