The Grand Prairie Festival of the Arts invites the community to submit entries for the Creative Writing Competition. The event is open to youth and adults and the entry deadline is Monday, Feb. 26.
The contest is open to all poets and writers, regardless of experience.
Categories are: Poetry – Adults and students in grades 3-4, 5-6, 7-9, 10-12; Short Story – fiction — Adults and students in grades 3-4, 5-6, 7-9, 10-12; non-fiction — Adults.
Entry fees: Adults — $5 per entry (multiple entries will be accepted) and students – no fee (entries are limited to 3 per category.)
Rules: All entries must be original works and unpublished on any subject or theme. Entries must be typed. Poems may not exceed one page. Short stories must be 2,500 words or less. Works should be labeled FICTION or NON - FICTION written in literary narrative format.
Awards include: Adults – Each Category 1st ($50) 2nd ($35) 3rd ($20); Students – Each Category 1st ($25) 2nd ($15) 3rd ($10); Cash awards and ribbons; Best of Show by Juror ($100); Irene Smith Memorial Award by Juror ($50).
Submission requirements: A cover sheet is required for each entry. It must include the writer’s name, address, phone number, email address and category of competition.
The name must not appear on the work. Do not staple the cover sheet to the entry. Submit only copies; works won’t be returned.
