The UAPB Golden Lions lost to the Creighton Bluejays on Tuesday afternoon by a score of 10-6 in a non-conference matchup.
The Bluejays took an early 4-0 lead over UAPB with RBI’s from Jack Strunc and Jordan Hocey. Creighton extended their lead up to 7-0 in the fifth inning after Strunc, Michael Emodi and Will Robertson all scored unearned runs.
The Golden Lions got on the board with Cutter McDonald hitting a double to left field that would score Ricardo Sanchez in the fifth inning.
In the same inning, Sergio Esparza helped UAPB add two more runs to their score with a double to center field that scored McDonald and Ryan Mallison.
Mallison brought the Golden Lions within two runs after a two-RBI single to make the score 7-5.
Creighton would increase the gap again after a two-run homer from Emodi in the eighth inning, and Isaac Collins hit a single to score a run as well for a 10-5 Bluejays lead.
The Golden Lions looked to make a run late in the ninth with an RBI double from Jaylen Jackson, but the comeback was cut short.
Strunc led Creighton at the plate with three hits and two RBI’s. Preston Church got the win on the mound for the Bluejays, throwing 4.2 innings and allowing three runs and three hits and striking out seven batters.
For UAPB, McDonald and Sanchez both had two hits a piece. Jordan O’Guinn was credited with the loss, pitching for one inning and allowing four runs off two hits.
