The Arkansas Hunger Relief Alliance recently awarded more than $188,000 in capacity building grants to hunger relief agencies around the state, including several in Southeast Arkansas.

Funds for the grants are provided through the State Food Purchase Program of the Arkansas Legislature.

“Capacity building grants may be used to purchase appliances such as refrigerators, freezers, and stoves as well shelving, trailors, computers other equipment that will help feed more food insecure people. Grant dollars may not be used for salaries or personnel,” according to a news release.

Grant recipients, counties they serve and award amounts include:

Women & Children First, Statewide $1,450; Vera Lloyd Presbyterian Family Services, Statewide $850;

TOPPS Inc., Jefferson, $2,000; Sheridan Ministerial Alliance, Grant $1,500; Precious Hearts, Jefferson $500;

Our House, 54 Counties $2,000; Hermitage Hands Food Pantry, Bradley $2,000; Community Family Enrichment Center Clark, Dallas and Pike, $1,650; Community Empowerment Council, Arkansas, Pulaski, Desha and Jefferson $1,300;

Christian Community Effort, Chicot $899; Centers for Youth & Families, Statewide $1,000; Bread of Life Heart of Compassion, Dallas $1,148; Area Agency on Aging Southeast Arkansas, Arkansas, Ashley, Bradley, Chicot, Cleveland, Desha, Grant, Jefferson and Lincoln $2,841.
