Alfred Carroll Ministries has opened the 2018 nomination period for the Deacon Burse Project Service Awards, recognizing the oldest active deacons serving in Pine Bluff/Jefferson County churches.
“This service award was developed in honor of Deacon Isaiah Burse, a member of Greater Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, who has since gone home to be with the Lord,” according to a news release.
Nominees must be 70 years old or older and may be nominated by their pastor, church and/or family members.
Nomination forms may be picked up at area churches and Father and Son’s Clothier Store in Jefferson Square. All nomination forms must be returned or post marked by Saturday, May 19.
“Since the first award was presented to Deacon Burse in 2011, we have recognized nearly 40 individuals ranging from 70 to 97 years in age,” Carroll said.
“We, at Alfred Carroll Ministries are eternally grateful to the late Deacon Isaiah Burse, this man of God who epitomized Acts 6:3; who allowed us to use his name and reputation to honor and inspire others,” he said.
