The Arts & Science Center for Southeast Arkansas, 701 S. Main St., is gearing up for its 2018 summer camps, including a four week, full-day theater camp and several one week full- and half-day camps, according to a news release.


Camp schedules include:


ART CAMP II — June 11-15, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; ages 12-17.


Art Camp II combines lessons in drawing, painting, printmaking, and sculpture with exploration of current ASC art exhibitions. Students will create 2D and 3D projects, and focus not only on artistic methods and working with different media, but also on the creative process itself.


THEATER CAMP — June 18–July 14, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Saturday performance July 14; ages 7-17.


At Theater Camp, students will learn all aspects of theater production: from directing to acting, from scenery construction to light and sound design. Through theater, students will practice creativity and innovation while they improve their skills in performance, collaboration, and technology. Theater Camp will culminate in a junior production of the play “It’s Not Ugly… It’s Art!”


ENGINEERING & TECHNOLOGY — June 18–22, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to noon, ages 12-17.


Through hands-on building and experimentation, students will be introduced to electric circuits, LEDs and switches, stop-motion animation, beginning computer coding and apps, conductors and semi-conductors, programming motors, and app development. This camp can be combined with Game Design & Development to create a full day STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) camp.


GAME DESIGN & DEVELOPMENT — June 18–22, Monday through Friday, 1-4 p.m., ages 12-17.


Through virtual development, students will be introduced to the fundamentals for creating a game through computer programming and animation, creative problem solving, mathematics, storytelling, and teamwork. Advance registration is required. Space is limited. This camp can be combined with Engineering & Technology to create a full day STEM camp.


FULL-DAY STEAM CAMP — July 18–22, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., ages 12-17.


Combo registration option for both Engineering & Technology and Game Design & Development.


FILMMAKING CAMP — July 16–20, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., ages 12-18.


Youth can release their inner filmmakers at ASC. Over the course of the week, students will explore storytelling as an art form, develop a film idea, shoot video, record audio, and edit their creation. Students will be immersed in both the technology and the creative and artistic aspects of filmmaking.


ART CAMP I — July 23—27, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to noon, ages 6-11.
