The Delta Rivers Nature Center at Regional Park will conduct several events in May, according to the Pine Bluff Down South newsletter from the Pine Bluff Advertising and Promotion Commission and the nature center’s website.
1:30-4 p.m. Friday, May 4 — Nature Quilters — The Delta Rivers Nature Center hosts Nature Quilting the first Friday of every month. This program is free to anyone interested in learning to quilt or quilters willing to share their knowledge with others. A nature program is provided each month and will be based on the year’s theme quilt.
10-11 a.m. Saturday, May 12 — Plant Swap — The Plant Swap is held in the classroom in front of the nature center. Participants should bring up to five cuttings, seeds or bulbs to trade with other plant lovers. Participants should label anything they bring to swap. A brief educational program will be given at some plant swaps. All ages are welcome to attend and participate. Afterwards, guests are invited to visit the nature center, surrounding trails and the Gift Shop for plant books and other items.
1-3 p.m. Saturday, May 12 — Nature Craft: Terrariums in Glass — “There is something charming about terrariums, green moss, damp air and growth behind glass,” according to officials. Participants will learn how to make a terrarium using re-purposed containers and sustainable harvested materials. They will also have a terrarium to take home, complete with care instructions. Materials will be provided. Live feedings of fish, eagles and a 9-foot alligator will follow this event.
5:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday, May 22-23 — Boater Education Class — The course teaches fundamentals of safe boating necessary to reduce loss of life, personal injury and property damage, while increase the boating enjoyment for outdoor enthusiasts, according to a spokesman. Anyone born after 1985 and of legal age to operate a motorboat or sailboat must have successfully completed an approved boater education course by the Arkansas Game & Fish Commission (AGFC) and carry proof while operating a motorboat or sailboat on Arkansas water. Participants at this class must attend both nights and register for this course. Register at https://www.register-ed.com/
