An 18-year-old Pine Bluff man is in critical condition after being shot in the head Friday night, and a suspect is in custody, according to the Pine Bluff Police Department.

A department news release said that just before midnight on Friday, officers responded to 3101 Allister in reference to a shooting. The victim, 18-year-old DaShawn Hughes, had been taken to Jefferson Regional Medical Center by personal vehicle.

“Detectives learned that there had been a fist fight between two females at the residence. After the fight, the victim and other males began to argue. One of the males, 23-year-old Ronald Sharkey, then shot Hughes, striking him in the head,” a PBPD news release said.

Sharkey was arrested Saturday, police said.

Hughes was transferred to UAMS from Jefferson Regional Medical Center and is in critical condition, police said. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the detective office at 870-730-2090 or the dispatch center at 870-541-5300.
