Hot Rods bar, which had been located at 6000 Sheridan Road inside the former Big Banjo building, has moved to 201 S. Main St. because their former location was torn down to make way for a new Shipley’s Donuts.
The bar opened Friday, May 4, with a sizable crowd, according to owner Dave Miller.
“There were over 80 people throughout the night,” he said.
The business is one of several that have recently opened downtown, including a hair/beauty salon and a shoe store.
Miller said that a “we’re open” post was made on Facebook at 1 p.m. on Friday, and the bar opened at 7 p.m. He said that there had not been any other promoting.
When asked what made him decide to open the bar in downtown Pine Bluff, Miller said that he knew he would have more success there, and he had been watching the Go Forward Pine Bluff initiative and was excited about what it is trying to do for the city.
“We want to be a part of the revitalization of Pine Bluff,” Miller said. “We hope to help bring Pine Bluff back to what it used to be. Over the next couple of years, this will be the place to be.”
Miller said that the bar is ready, open and available to everyone with different events held each night.
Monday night is “card night.” Tuesday night there are pool tournaments. Wednesday night there is live music. Thursday night is dedicated to card playing while on Friday and Saturday nights there are karaoke performances.
While speaking to Miller on Monday afternoon before opening time, there were many people trying to come inside.
Colby McIntyre, an anxious customer, said that he is excited about the bar and wasn’t able to make it for the opening night due to work.
“I know it’s nice inside, and I can’t wait to see it,” McIntyre said.
