World War I Memorial Tree dedications across the state are among the May 2018 activities the Arkansas WWI Centennial Commemoration Committee has sanctioned, according to the Arkansas Department of Heritage.


Tree dedications in May, include several in Southeast Arkansas:


• Chicot County Memorial Tree Dedication, featuring the planting of a WWI Memorial Tree provided by the Arkansas Forestry Commission and the Arkansas WWI Centennial Commemoration Committee, will be held at noon on Monday, May 28, at the Lake Village Community Pond across from Lakeside High School. • Lonoke County Memorial Tree Dedication, featuring the planting of a WWI Memorial Tree provided by the Arkansas Forestry Commission and the Arkansas WWI Centennial Commemoration Committee, will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, May 28, at the Lonoke County Courthouse in Lonoke. • A World War I Memorial Tree will be dedicated at 4:30 p.m. Saturday, May 19, at the New Edinburg Community Center on Highway 8 at New Edinburg. Soil from the Meuse-Argonne National Cemetery in France will be placed around the tree. At 5:30 p.m., an outdoor concert will be performed by Gene Rainey and the Country 1-4-5 Band, according to a New Edinburg community spokesman.
