NEW EDINBURG — The New Edinburg Farmers Market will host a grand opening at 8 a.m. Saturday, May 19. Also, the 5k Run/Walk and kids fun walk/run will be held at the corner of Highway 8/Farm to Market Road.


Local produce will be available for purchase plus handmade crafts, jams, jellies, and pies at the farmers market, according to a news release.


The Cleveland County Health Department will provide free blood pressure screenings and health information. Diane Clement, county extension agent-family and consumer sciences for Cleveland County, will provide information on healthy eating.


Additional activities will include face painting, a bouncy house and miniature donkeys.


For the run/walk, children 12 and under can participate in either race for $5 if preregistered by Friday, May 11, and will receive a T-shirt, race medal and free entrance to the bouncy house. All runners and walkers who preregister by Friday will receive a T-shirt and participation medal.


Run/walk forms can be picked up at sponsors Warren Bank and FBT Bank & Mortgage at Fordyce or Rison. Exterminating Services Co. (Esco) is also a sponsor.
