First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) at 40th Avenue and Hazel Street is re-locating to a temporary location at 700 W. 32nd Ave. (32nd Avenue and Beech Street).
“May 13, 2018, Mother’s Day, was our last day in our current facility,” according to a news release from Donna Davis, First Christian Church trustee. “First Christian Church is one of the oldest congregations in Pine Buff, having been established in 1894, with previous locations at Sixth and Laurel and Sixth and Beech before the 1969 move to 40th and Hazel.”
“Just as families downsize, so the church family decided that they could become better stewards of God’s mission than supporting an aging structure. Our beliefs are simple in that we confess that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the Living God. We hold the centrality of scripture, recognizing that each person has the freedom and responsibility to study God’s Word,” according to the release.
“We practice the baptism of believers, while also recognizing the baptism performed in other churches. Most central to First Christian Church is that we gather each Sunday for the Lord’s Supper and all are welcome at the table to partake as it is the Lord’s Table, not ours. We are often called a ‘bridge Church’ as family members having different beliefs can feel comfortable worshipping together with us,” according to the release.
Services also include a prayer group meeting at 2 p.m. Wednesdays and a Disciples Women Bible Study group meeting at 10 a.m. on the first Tuesday of each month.
“The congregation has supported and continues to support the Pine Bluff Community through various outreach programs,” according to the release.
The church invites all to worship Sundays. Bible Study begins at 9:30 a.m. and worship begins at 10:45 a.m.
