The Arkansas Department of Health regulates the sale of food at establishments which include restaurants, bars, daycares, schools, grocery stores, convenience stores, bed and breakfast facilities, hotels/motels, mobile units and concession stands. Inspections are made unannounced by environmental health specialists.

The following are the results of food safety inspections conducted by the Jefferson County Health Unit:


• Kosmic Kidz Outreach Inc., 313 W. Barraque St., C. Date of inspection May 15. No violations observed during time of inspection. Not in operation during time of inspection.


• Trinity Temple Church, 800 S. Catalpa St. Date of inspection May 15. No violations observed during time of inspection.


• Casa Women’s Shelter, 1113 State St. Date of inspection May 11. No violations observed during time of inspection.


• Best Western Pres Hotel, U.S. 65 and Market Street. Date of inspection May 10. Observed no test strips in kitchen. Need chlorine test strips to ensure proper sanitizing solution concentration.


• Richard’s, 1120 E. Harding Ave. Date of follow-up inspection May 10. OK to operate; permit given.


• Rich’s Burger, 102 N. Walnut St. Date of inspection May 8. Food must be stored in compliance with established regulations; box of Mayonnaise noted on the floor. All food should be at least off on the floor. NC Observed ice scoop broken. Ice scoop needs to be replaced.


• Sha’s Sweet, 3214 Old Warren Road. Date of inspection May 8. Observation: A valid permit must be posted in view of the public.


• Delta Bryant Street site. 1502 N. Bryant St. Date of inspection April 19. No violations observed during time of inspection.


• Sweet Shirley Ann’s, 209 W. Harding Ave. Date of inspection April 19. No violations observed during time of inspection.


• City of Wabbaseka, 100 S. Paw Paw Road, Wabbaseka. Date of inspection April 16. No violations observed during time of inspection.


• Dr John’s Bar-B-Que, mobile, 507 E. Harding Ave. Date of inspection April 16. Need thermometers in all cooler and hot holding unit to ensure proper holding of temperatures. All outer openings of a food establishment should be protected against the entry of insects and rodents. Counter tops should be covered with smooth easily cleanable surface. Need chlorine test strips to ensure proper sanitizing concentration. Establishment must have hot water available. To ensure sure proper cleaning.


• Pine Bluff Senior High School, 10th Avenue and Laurel Street. Date of inspection April 16. Walk in freezer door does not seal properly. Door should be made to properly seal. Part of ceiling in dry storage room is in disrepair and needs to be repaired.


• Bull’s Den Grill, mobile, 228 Shamsie Lane. White Hall. Date of inspection April 13. No violations reported.


• Rice First Class Catering, 5520 Ray Road. Date of inspection April 13. No violations reported.


• Townsend Park Ballfield Conces, P.O. Box 7676. Date of inspection April 13. Need chlorine test strips to ensure proper sanitizing solution concentration. Need to non-food contact surfaces. (counter tops). Need to clean wall in kitchen area. No current health permit posted.


• Big J’s LLC, 5 La Salle Cove. Date of inspection April 12. No violations observed during time of inspection.


• Chicken House, 106 N. First St., Wabbaseka. Date of opening inspection April 12. Establishment is OK to operate.
