A 17-year-old student at the Jefferson Area Technical Career Center was arrested Thursday after two guns were found in his backpack.
The student’s name was not released because of his age.
Police Lt. David De Foor said in a news release that a teacher at the school at 1903 W. 34th Ave. noticed a handgun in an open pocket of the backpack and notified a school administrator and police.
When the administration took possession of the backpack and started to escort the juvenile out of the classroom, the student ran and was arrested by police after a short chase. A .22 pistol and an RG 10 revolver were found in the student’s backpack. He was taken to the detective’s office for questioning.
