Entergy Arkansas Crews have completed part of a project and are resuming work in Pine Bluff to improve reliability and prevent future outages, according to a news release.

Crews began the work in April and will complete it this week. Approximately 25 people are working approximately 400 man hours along South University Drive, Martha Mitchell Expressway, Second Avenue and areas around the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, according to the release.

Workers replaced poles, cross arms and aging equipment, as well as installed animal mitigation measures. They are also replacing service lines at the substation to the area and converting overhead lines to underground ones, according to the release.

“We are grateful to our customers for how patient they have been during this project,” said Tongia Gaston, customer service representative for Entergy Arkansas. “We’ve had about a dozen bucket trucks and a digger doing work in this area and that can be inconvenient for folks.”

This project is part of more than $2 billion Entergy is investing in equipment upgrades in Arkansas between 2017 and 2019. With these infrastructure improvements, every county in the service area will see improvements over the next few years, according to the release.

“More work is planned in the area through the end of the year,” Gaston said. “The main focus will be to improve the electric service reliability for customers by upgrading and replacing aging facilities.”

Entergy Arkansas provides electricity to approximately 700,000 customers in 63 counties.
