The Pen or Pencil King Team conducted a service learning project May 26 at the Jefferson County Courthouse to restore the grounds near a World World II Monument. The team is from Pine Bluff Interested Citizens for Voter Registration.
The monument was dedicated July 20, 1947, and is the only one of its kind in Arkansas erected specifically to honor Pine Bluff/Jefferson County African American soldiers, according to a news release.
Along with the youngsters and mentors, participants also included the Rev. Anthony Howard, a retired veteran and president of the Consolidated St. Marion Baptist District Association Laymen Department, according to the release.
