Anniversaries


New Salem Missionary Baptist Church at Sherrill will commemorate the 40th anniversary of the pastor and wife, the Rev. Clark E. Thomas and Hazel B. Thomas. A roast and toast banquet will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, June 2, at the Pine Bluff Convention Center and the cost is $25 per person. On Sunday, June 3, the guest speaker at 11 a.m. will be the Rev. Michael Woolfolk from Columbus, Ga. At 3 p.m., the featured speaker will be the Rev. Robert Handley, pastor of Mt. Harmony Missionary Baptist Church.


Smith Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, 3004 S Kentucky St., will celebrate the 29th anniversary of the pastor and wife, the Rev. and Mrs. C.L. Williams, beginning with Minister’s Night at 7 p.m. Friday, June 1. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Lee Whitiker, pastor of Solid Rock Missionary Baptist Church. At 11 a.m. Saturday, June 2, the first lady, Robbie Williams, will be honored with a “Denim and Pearls’ Brunch.” Joyce Murry, first lady of Gospel Temple Baptist Church, will give words of exhortation. At 3 p.m. Sunday, June 3, the special guests will be the Rev. George Waters Jr., pastor of the Rose Hill Missionary Baptist Church, and his congregation.


Mt. Bayou Missionary Baptist Church at Altheimer will present the 24th appreciation program of the pastor and wife, the Rev. Lafayette Woods Sr. and Gwendolyn Woods, an evangelist, at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 3. The guest minister will be the Rev. R. DeShun Coates of St. Paul Baptist Church at Little Rock.


Old Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, 3116 Port Road, will celebrate its 121st anniversary at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 3. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Michael Payne of First Baptist Church at Higgins.


Bright Star Missionary Baptist Church on U.S. 425 South will present the 23rd pastoral anniversary honoring the Rev. William A. Neal Sr. and family at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 3. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Glenn Barnes, pastor of Pine Hill Missionary Baptist Church.


Main Street Church of God in Christ, 2900 S. Main St., will celebrate homecoming. The Dr. Joe L. Stocker Endowment Banquet will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, June 2, at the fellowship hall of First Trinity Church of God in Christ, 800 S. Catalpa St., and the guest speaker will be Dr. Christy Walker. At 7 p.m. Saturday, the reunion choir concert at Main Street will include Stellar-nominated artist Billy Rivers, Dedric Jones, Lillie O’Neal and Teresa Stocker-Griffin. Sunday, June 3, worship at 10 a.m. features Elder Brandon R. Clay of Main Street. At 3 p.m., the guest speaker will be Elder Shelvie Henry, senior leader of Royal Priesthood Ministries at St. Louis.


Solomon Hill Missionary Baptist Church, 8011 Olive St., will celebrate the fourth anniversary of the pastor and wife, the Rev. Ken and Mattie Daniels, at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 3. The guest minister will be the Rev. Woodrow Jackson Sr. of New United Baptist Church at Pine Bluff.


Concerts/Musicals


Mt. Zion Baptist Church at Altheimer will host the musical benefit program for Calvin Thomas and Ann Reynolds Compton at 7 p.m. Saturday, June 2. The Southeast Arkansas Community Mass Choir is the sponsor.


Travelers Rest Missionary Baptist Church at Grady will host the anniversary of the Johnson Family Gospel Singers at 7 p.m. Saturday, June 2. Sunday, June 3, at 2 p.m., guests will include the Rev. Walter Witherspoon III, pastor of True Harvest Missionary Baptist Church at Dumas, along with his congregation. At 7 p.m. Sunday, services will climax at the Dumas Singing Center at Dumas.


Men’s/women’s programs


New Morning Star Baptist Church at Altheimer will celebrate its annual men’s day at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, June 3. The guest preacher will be the Rev. James Barnes Jr., pastor of New St. James Baptist Church. The Southeast Arkansas Male Chorus will sing.


Allen Temple AME Church, 1123 S. Virginia St., will observe its annual men’s day Sunday, June 3. At 11 a.m., the guest speaker will be the Rev. Donald Warren, pastor of First Christian Church at Stuttgart. At 3 p.m., the featured speaker will be the Rev. Steven E. King, pastor of St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church. St. Paul Mass Chorus and Men in Black will sing.


Revivals


Eternal Life Ministry, 503 Pryce St., will conduct its spring revival at 7 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, June 6-8. The guest speaker will be Winfred Garrett, bishop of Zion Church at Austin, Texas.


Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church, 8523 Princeton Pike, will hold revival at 7 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, June 4-6. The guest evangelist will be the Rev. Donald Manning, pastor of Thomas Chapel Missionary Baptist Church at Gould.


Special events


Evangelistic Outreach Church, 620 L.A. Prexy Davis Drive, will be the site for the line up of the annual prayer motorcade Saturday, June 2. Vehicles will line up at 6:30 a.m. and the motorcade will begin at 7 a.m. Sponsored by the Apostolic Prophetic Fellowship of Churches and Ministries, the motorcade will circle the city while praying and interceding for Pine Bluff and Altheimer, a spokeswoman said. The Pine Bluff Department and Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department will provide escorts. All ministries and individuals are invited to participate.


Eudora Missionary Baptist Church, 9405 Middle Warren Road, will host guest speaker, the Rev. Joseph Westbrook of New Light Missionary Baptist Church at Little Rock, at 11:15 a.m. Sunday, June 3.


St. Peter’s Rock Missionary Baptist Church, 1201 S. Catalpa St., will conduct a deacon’s ordination service for Willie C. Hall Sr. at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 3. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Luther Spratt, pastor of Star Bethel Baptist Church of Wabbaseka, accompanied by his congregation.


Full Faith Christian Center, 1320 E. 17th Ave., will observe its friends and family day at 11 a.m. Sunday, June 3. Pine Bluff Mayor Shirley Washington will be the guest speaker. At 3 p.m., the center will host a singing program featuring the Spiritualettes, Men of Christ, Gospelettes and Spiritual Wings of Joy.


Grace Temple Missionary Baptist Church, 909 S. Wisconsin St., will present its annual family day at 11 a.m. Sunday, June 3. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Rayford Barnes, associate minister at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church.


Eternal Life Ministry, 503 Pryce St., will be the site of the ordination service for Bishop-elect Leon Warren Sr. of Liberty Faith Christian Center at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 3. The apostle, Patrick Lockett, pastor of New Community Church, will officiate the ordination.


Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church at Ladd will celebrate the 87th annual mission program at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 3. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Charles Boyd Sr., pastor of First Missionary Baptist Church at Pine Bluff, accompanied by his congregation.


Greater Deliverance Global Ministry, 2215 E. Harding Ave., will host “A Live Celebration & Fellowship,” a pre-Founders day event at 4 p.m. Sunday, June 3. The speaker will be the Rev. Willie Edwards, pastor of International House of Praise Church, accompanied by his congregation.


The Apostolic Prophetic Fellowship of Churches and Ministries will host City Fest Empowerment Conference. At 6:30 p.m. June 7 at the Pine Bluff Convention Center, services will feature Geoffrey Golden, the BET Sunday Best Season 7 Winner, and Darius Nelson and St. Mark Sanctuary Choir of Little Rock. Eranesha Cochran will discuss the church and physical wellness. At 6:30 p.m. June 8 at the convention center, the guest speaker will be Iona Locke, bishop of Abyssinia Christ Centered Ministries. Bessie Lancelin will discuss the church and mental and emotional wellness. Evangelistic Outreach Church, 620 L.A. Prexy Davis Drive, will host services June 9 at 9:30 a.m. The speaker will be Ruby Pedescleaux, bishop of Showers of Blessings Ministries. Stacy Luckett will discuss the church and education and Ivan Whitfield will discuss the church and public safety. The visionary and founder of the program is Emma Luckett, apostle.


Jerusalem No. 1 Missionary Baptist Church at Altheimer will host its calendar drive program at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, June 3. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Leroy Spears, pastor of Union Baptist Missionary Baptist Church at Pine Bluff.


St. Joseph Catholic Church and St. Peter Catholic Church, both of Pine Bluff, will host the annual Corpus Christi Procession. The procession will begin at 4 p.m. Sunday, June 3, at St. Peter’s, 207 E. 16th Ave., processing to the Annunciation Chapel at St. Joseph, 412 W. Sixth Ave. Refreshments will be served after the event. The procession dates back over a decade where the two parishes process down Main Street carrying the Blessed Sacrament (the Holy Eucharist consecrated at Holy Mass, which becomes the true presence of Jesus Christ), a spokesman said.


Vacation Bible School


New Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, 1026 S. Missouri St., will host Vacation Bible School from 6-8 p.m. Monday through Friday, June 4-8.


Barraque Street Missionary Baptist Church, 1800 W. Pullen St., will host Vacation Bible School from 6-8:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, June 4-7, for adults and children. The session will include learning God’s word, community service, crafts, music and snacks.


Youth


Unity Christian Fellowship Church, 2712 S. Bay St., will host youth services at 10 a.m. each Sunday. Youth will watch Christian movies, learn Bible characters, Places, events of the Bible, learn how to praise and pray, hear youth focused messages, have discussion sessions, activities and snacks. Sessions are open to all youth 3 to 15 years old.
