An investigation into a report that a car had been stolen during a robbery Friday night resulted in the arrest of two people including a juvenile who ran from the stolen vehicle when police tried to stop it.

Amariyha Johnson, 18, and the juvenile were among four to five people who jumped out of the car in the area of 24th Avenue and Spruce Street about an hour after the car owner reported it stolen.

Detective Kaylon McDaniel said in a probable cause affidavit that the owner of the car, a 2002 Dodge Dart said he was at 26th Avenue and Hazel Street when he was approached by three men and said one of them pointed a gun at him and told him to get out of the vehicle.

A description of the car was broadcast to police units and an officer spotted the car at 21st Avenue and Spruce Street resulting in a short chase.

When Johnson was questioned, he said he did not know any of the other people in the car with the exception of the person that offered him a ride. He did not identify that person.

Jefferson County District Judge Kim Bridgforth set a $5,000 bond for Johnson after ruling prosecutors have probable cause to charge him with theft by receiving. The Public Defender’s Office was appointed to represent Johnson.
