The Kiwanis Club of Pine Bluff announces an upcoming meeting and other community events.


Kiwanis meets at noon Wednesdays at the Pine Bluff Country Club. On June 27, the speaker will be Mildred J. Franco, executive director of Go Forward Pine Bluff’s initiative known as “The Innovation Hub” and “The Generator.”


“This GFPB Initiative, as part of GFPB’s Economic Development Pillar will create an Arkansas Regional Innovation Hub in Pine Bluff and Make the city and the region an economic engine for Southeast Arkansas,” according to a news release.

The Kiwanis Club won’t meet July 4, Independence Day, however members are urged to participate in the following community events:


• A Community Cleanup. The event will be held Thursday, June 21, from 9 a.m. to noon at Golden Lions Park, located at the northwest edge of Lake Saracen, just off University Drive. Join the Jefferson County Cooperative Extension Service to Keep Pine Bluff beautiful. Members should also were their Kiwanis shirt.


• Jenkins Memorial Center Chicken Dinner. The fundraiser will be held Friday, June 22, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Oak Park Village II Shopping Center parking lot (28th Avenue and Fir Street). Tickets are $10 per person and can be purchased from Jenkins employees or by calling 870-534-2035.


• Arkansas Food Bank Cereal Drive. Members who didn’t bring donations of cereal boxes or other non-perishable breakfast items to a Kiwanis meeting, should take them to the Pine Bluff Regional Chamber of Commerce, 510 Main St., through June 25.
