Anniversaries


First Missionary Baptist Church, 4500 Faucett Road, will present the 17th anniversary of the pastor and wife, the Rev. and Mrs. Charles S. Boyd Sr. At 7 p.m. Friday, June 22, exhortations will be made from pastors, the Revs. Johnny Smith, Julius McDade, G.L. Sanders, Joshua Pickett, and Gilbert Byrd. Pearls & Praise, an event honoring the first lady, Elfreda Boyd, will be held at noon Saturday, June 23. At 3 p.m. Sunday, June 24, the anniversary will feature guest minister, the Rev. LaVara Henry, pastor of Damascus Missionary Baptist Church.


Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church at Dumas will observe its 127th anniversary at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 24. The guest minister will be the Rev. Luther Green, pastor of Greater New Hope Baptist Church at North Little Rock.


Star Bethel Missionary Baptist Church at Wabbaseka will observe the 10th anniversary of the pastor and wife, the Rev. Luther and Rosetta Spratt, at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 24. The guest minister will be the Rev. Darren Edgerson, pastor of St. Peter’s Rock Missionary Baptist Church, accompanied by his congregation. Dinner will be served after the program.


Motley Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, 794 St. Raphael Road, will commemorate the 22nd pastoral anniversary of the Rev. and Mrs. Wiley Shelton at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 24. The guest speaker will be the Rev. John Shelton Jr., pastor of Oak Grove Missionary Baptist Church at Gethsemane.


Union Missionary Baptist Church at Altheimer will hold the ninth pastoral anniversary of the Rev. Hosea and Paula Miller at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 24. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Thomas, pastor of Eudora Baptist Church at Altheimer.


Concerts/Musicals


Mt. Carmel Baptist Church, 900 S. Grant St., will host the Music Praise and Worship Celebration of Love for Frances Blood, in memory of her late husband, the Rev. Larry C. Blood. The service will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday, June 24. Guests will include the Heavenly Hearts, Men In Christ, Johnson Family, Soul Revivals, and Nu Image.


Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church at Altheimer will celebrate its choir anniversary at Sunday, June 24. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Walter Witherspoon III, pastor of True Harvest Missionary Baptist Church at Dumas, accompanied by his choir. Other guests will include evangelists, Lena Corbin and Patricia Haynes, and the Dewitt Hill Singers.


New Era Ministry will host a Gospel Praise Fest at noon Saturday, June 23, at the Town Square at Star City. (If it rains, the event will be held at the civic center at Star City.) Singers will include the White Hall Pentecostal Praise and Worship Team, Humble Hearts, St. Luke Male Chorus of Memphis, Men of Faith, Singing Revs, Traveling Kings and Spiritually Divine. The event will also include games, arts and crafts, and food vendors. Participants should bring lawn chairs.


Men’s/Women’s programs


Cherry Hill Missionary Baptist Church at Moscow will observe its annual women’s day at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 24. The guest speaker will be Johnnie Nelson of New Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church at Pine Bluff. The guest choir director will be Shell Marks of New Community Church. Refreshments will be served.


Galilee Missionary Baptist Church, 4807 W. Sixth Ave., will host its women’s conference from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, June 23. The featured speakers will be Ellen Harbin, an evangelist from Star Bethel Missionary Baptist Church at Greenville, Miss.; Gwendolyn Rodgers of Ezekiel Missionary Baptist Church, Cassandra Shaw of New Faith Missionary Baptist Church, and Joyce Murry of Gospel Temple Missionary Baptist Church.


New Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church, 1026 Missouri St., will sponsor men’s day starting at 11 a.m. Sunday, June 24. At 3 p.m., the guest speaker will be the Rev. Brian Castle, pastor of Indiana Street Missionary Baptist Church, and music will be provided by the Southeast Arkansas Male Chorus.


New Community Baptist Church, 321 N. Birch St., will celebrate its annual men’s day at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 24. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Charles E. Banks Sr. of Fellowship Full Gospel Ministries at Lafayette, La.


God’s House of Praise, 4218 W. 15th Ave., will present its women’s conference at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 23. Participants will include Connie Tindall, a minister, and evangelists Susan G. Gray, Pamela J. Randolph and Verdia L. Fields.


There Is Hope Church of God in Christ, 1003 E. Second Ave., will present its men’s day at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, June 24. The guest speaker will be Glenn Shields, bishop of Bread of Life Ministry at Fordyce.


St. Andrew AME Church, 701 Franklin St., will celebrate its annual men’s day at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 24. The guest preacher will be the Rev. Kelcey Highsmith Sr., pastor of Weary Rest Baptist Church in the Marsden community at Hermitage.


Eighth Avenue Baptist Church, 1200 W. Eighth Ave., will present its annual men’s day at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 24. The guest preacher will be the Rev. Rev. Travis Harden, pastor of Greater Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church.


New Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church, 500 Bois D’Arc, will host its annual women’s day at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 24. The guest speaker will be Latina Myers of Jericho Church.


Greater New Bibleway Church of God in Christ at North Little Rock will host the 64th annual Women’s Convention of the Arkansas Second Jurisdiction Church of God in Christ, which includes churches in Pine Bluff. Mulberry Grove Missionary Baptist Church of Altheimer will conduct the installation service of its pastor, the Rev. Robert Key, at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 24. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Learthur Shelton Sr., pastor of Open Door Christian Church at Bryant. Guests will also include the Rev. Terry Reams Sr., pastor of First Baptist Church at Rison, and the Rev. Freedom Missionary Baptist Church at Altheimer will host a conference at 6:45 p.m. Friday, June 22, and 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 23, and topics include giving, worship and marriage. Greater Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, 3700 W. 13th Ave., will conduct its 2017-18 school year awards and 2018 graduation celebration at 11 a.m. Sunday, June 24. The speaker will be the Rev. Travis Harden, pastor of the church.


Mt. Pleasant AME Church, 1201 N. Magnolia St., will host its annual missionary day at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 24. The speaker will be Candace Davis, a native of Pine Bluff and graduate of the University of Arkansas. She is a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church at East Moline, Ill.


Liberty Hill Missionary Baptist Church, 6300 U.S. 79 South, will host its ushers’ program at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 24. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Mark Stephens, pastor of Union Chapel Missionary Baptist Church at McGehee.


The Consolidated St. Marion Baptist District Association’s 150th celebration will conclude during its annual session Aug. 18-23. Vacation Bible School


Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church, 1801 Indiana St., will sponsor Vacation Bible School from 8:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Monday through Friday, June 25-29. Classes will be held for children 4 years old and older as well as for adults.


St. Peter’s Rock Missionary Baptist Church, 1201 S. Catalpa St., will conduct Vacation Bible School from 6-8:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, June 25-29. Sessions will be held for adults and children.
