The Arkansas Department of Health regulates the sale of food at establishments which include restaurants, bars, daycares, schools, grocery stores, convenience stores, bed and breakfast facilities, hotels/motels, mobile units and concession stands. Inspections are made unannounced by environmental health specialists.

The following are the results of food safety inspections conducted by the Jefferson County Health Unit:


• China Kitchen, 2318 W. 28th Ave. Date of inspection into complaint June 15. Observed no rotten smell in this establishment. Make sure to keep wiping cloths in sanitize solution. Health inspector observed no roaches in the bathroom area. The ice machine was cleaned during time of inspection.


• Cave and Cave Sales Inc., 11001 S. Highway 88, Altheimer. Date of inspection June 6. Observed employee drinking without lid and straw. All employee drinks in the food preparation area must have a lid and a straw.


• Earnesto’s, 218 S. Blake St. Date of inspection June 6. Establishment not in operation during time of inspection. Three-compartment sinks are unclean and need to be cleaned. Shelves throughout kitchen are unclean and need to be cleaned. Floors throughout kitchen, especially under cooking equipment and soda dispensing area, are unclean and need to be cleaned. Light shield under vent hood is missing and needs to be placed back on. Health permit posted has expired. Current health permit should be posted.


• Neighbor to Neighbor Inc., 1419 Pine St. Date of inspection June 6. Test strips not noted in establishment. Test strips needed to test sanitizer strength. Ceiling fans in kitchen and dry storage are unclean and need to be cleaned. Shelving throughout kitchen is in disrepair and needs to be repaired. Observed fryer not under vent hood. Fryer should be under the vent hood to prevent grease or condensation from collecting on the walls and ceilings.


• T’s Place, 3714 Camden Road. Date of inspection June 6. Observed no paper towels at hand washing sink. Make sure to keep paper towels at hand washing sink. Observed no thermometers in cooler. Need thermometers in all coolers and hot holding unit to ensure proper holding temperatures. Observation: Observed no test strips in kitchen area. Establishment the concentration of the sanitizing solution. Observed missing floor tile. There are some missing floor tiles that need to be repaired/replaced.


• ABC Learning Academy, 6214 Dollarway Road. Date of inspection June 6. Observation: Observed no sanitizing test strips in establishment. Test strips are needed to measure the concentration of the sanitizing solution.


• Cranford’s White Hall deli, 8503 Dollarway Road. Date of inspection June 5. Some cold holding temperatures in deli walk in cooler are out of safe temperature range (must be 41 degrees F or below). Observed several flies in deli/bakery area. Establishment should remain free of insects. Observed used wiping cloths sitting on counter tops. Wiping cloths should be kept in a sanitizer solution between use. Observed single use items being reused to store food in. Single use items should not be reused. Some parts of flooring and ceiling in deli are damaged and need to be repaired. Floors, especially under and behind cooking equipment, are unclean and need to be cleaned.


• Cranford’s White Hall, 8503 Dollarway Road. Date of inspection June 5. Some temperatures in cheese island refrigerators, walk in meat cooler, meat prep room, and meat case are out of safe temperature range (must be 41 degrees F or below). Walk in cooler doors in meat department and produce area and wall in meat department walk in cooler are damaged and need to be repaired. Reach in freezer door and back walk in cooler doors not sealing properly. Doors should be repaired to seal properly. Fan fixture on the ceiling nearest the walk in cooler in the meat department is leaking condensation and needs to be repaired. Meat department walk in and dairy walk in cooler fans are unclean and need to be cleaned. Meat department floors, walls, and ceiling are unclean and need to be cleaned. Meat department floors and ceiling tiles are damaged or missing and need to be repaired or replaced. Light bulbs under produce prep area are not shielded and should be shielded or provided with a shatterproof bulb. Shields were placed on the light bulbs during inspection.


• Eastern Quality Vending, 5505 Jefferson Parkway. Date of inspection June 5. Observed fan with build-up of lint. Fan in kitchen area needs to be cleaned. Observed missing ceiling tiles in kitchen area. The missing ceiling tiles need to be repaired or replaced.


• Tyson Company Store, 5505 Jefferson Parkway. Date of inspection June 5. Food must be stored in compliance with established regulations. All food in walk cooler should be at least six inches above the floor. Current health permit posted. A valid permit must be posted in view of the public.


• Huddle House - White Hall, 7735 Sheridan Road, 103 Woodberry Court, White Hall. Date of follow-up inspection June 4. Observed employee touching ready to eat food with bare hands. Gloves should be used when handling ready to eat food. Observed food being stored uncovered in refrigerators. Food should be covered to prevent contamination while being stored. Food was covered in refrigerators during inspection. Seal on the bottom of the back door needs replaced. Green cutting board needs to be resurfaced or replaced. Prep cooler near soda machine is leaking condensation and needs to be repaired. No hot water observed at three compartment sink. Hot water should be made available throughout the facility. Trash cans containing food residue should be covered when not in continuous use. Ceiling vents are unclean and need to be cleaned. Some ceiling tiles in kitchen are damaged and need to be replaced. Some flooring is damaged and needs to be repaired. Health permit posted has expired. Current health permit should be posted.


• Pizza Hut, 2711 S. Hazel St., Suite B. Date of inspection June 4. Observed trash cans containing food residue being stored uncovered. Trash cans containing food residue should be covered when not in continuous use. Floors, especially under cooking and prepping equipment and under shelving in dry storage room, are unclean and need to be cleaned. Vent hood under fryer is unclean and needs to be cleaned.


• Sonic Drive In, 3410 Camden Road. Date of inspection June 4. Observed drinking without lids and a straw. All employee drinks in the food preparation area must have a lid and a straw. Observed ice scoop being stored in ice. Items must be stored to prevent contamination. Ice (scoop) was removed from ice and stored properly. Observed trash can without lid. All trash cans need lids. Only lids if they contain food residue and are not in continuous use.


• Blake Street Fish Market, 1130 S. Blake St. Date of follow-up inspection June 1. Front door does not seal properly. All outer openings of a food establishment should be protected against the entry of insects and rodents. Cutting boards should be resurfaced or replaced. Outside of fryer equipment and shelving throughout kitchen are unclean and need to be cleaned. Observed trash cans containing food residue uncovered. Trash cans in kitchen area containing food residue need to be covered when not in continuous use. Floors, walls, and ceilings throughout kitchen are unclean and need to be cleaned. Floors throughout kitchen, walls, especially near front door, and ceiling throughout kitchen are damaged and need to be repaired. Vent hood is unclean and needs to be cleaned.


• Bud Robinson Auction, 3707 Rhinehart Road. Date of inspection June 1. Observed no hand washing sign at hand washing sink. Must have a sign or poster that notifies food workers to wash their hands at all hand washing sinks used by food workers and shall be clearly visible to food workers.


• Community Empowerment Council, 2501 S. Cherry St. Date of inspection June 1. Observed uncovered lighting. All lighting must have protective covering. Health permit was expired. A valid permit must be posted in view of the public


• Dollar General Store, 713 University Drive. Date of inspection June 1. Observed sugar on counter tops. Sugar needs to be cleaned off counter to prevents pest.


• Motor Way Grocery, 3432 U.S.65 South. Date of inspection June 1. Test strips not observed in establishment. Test strips needed to test sanitizer strength. Observed lights in establishment over food without shields. Lights in kitchen should be properly shielded. Health permit posted has expired. Current health permit not posted.


• Burger Barn, 1300 S. Hazel St. Date of inspection May 31. Observed no thermometers in cooler. Need thermometers to ensure proper holding temperatures. Observed no sanitizing test strips in establishment. Need chlorine test strips to ensure proper sanitizing solution concentration.


• Food Trolley LLC, mobile, 4721 Providence Road. Date of inspection May 31. Observed fish being thawed sitting in standing water in foil container. Fish should only be thawed using approved thawing methods. No thermometer noted in refrigerator holding food that must stay cold. Thermometer needed in refrigerator holding food that must stay cold.


• Burger King, 400 N. Blake St. Date of inspection May 31. Drink machine needs to be cleaned. Drink machine was cleaned and sanitized during time of inspection. Observed pickles being stored on the floor. Pickles should be stored at least six inches from the floor. Observation: Observed floors being dirty. Floors need to be cleaned and sanitized.


• Lucky’s Cafe, 310 E. Fifth Ave. Date of inspection May 31. Observed containers of food prepared in establishment held for more than 24 hours and not date marked. Food that has been prepared on site shall be date marked if held for more than 24 hours and discarded after 7 days. Containers of food prepared in establishment were date marked during inspection. No consumer advisory noted in menu. Consumer advisory needed in menu for food items that are served raw or undercooked. Observed used wiping cloths sitting out on the counter. Wiping cloths should be kept in a sanitizer solution between use. Some ceiling tiles in kitchen are damaged and need to be repaired. Some parts of ceiling in kitchen are unclean and need to be cleaned.


• The Social League. 303 W. 31st Ave. Date of inspection May 31. Bottom of back door seal is missing and needs to be replaced. Floors under and behind equipment in kitchen are unclean and need to be cleaned.
