Pine Bluff Northern captured three wins in the first three days of the Jr. Babe Ruth State Tournament at historic Taylor Field in the heart of Pine Bluff. Their next game is at 1 p.m. today against Crossett. If Northern wins, they will advance to the championship game at 5 p.m. on Monday.

In the game on Thursday, Northern defeated Camden by a score of 9-5.

In the first inning, David Carroll was walked and Randy Little Jr. singled to score the run.

Camden added three runs in the third inning, but Pine Bluff retaliated with five runs in the same inning with runs scored by Terron Jenkins, Jacoby Bates, Curtis Standoak, Cason Blunt and Carroll.

Logan Robertson scored a run for Camden in the fifth inning, and Martavius Thomas added one in the sixth. However, Northern added three more runs by Zion Hill, Joshua Howard and Elisha Taylor, who all scored on pass balls.

Northern was led at the plate by Little, who had two RBI’s in the game. Carroll, Hill and Taylor all had one hit in the game.

Robertson led Camden with two hits while being credited with the loss on the mound, allowing four runs off four hits and striking out six batters.

Tyler Clay started on the mound for Northern and had two strikeouts before being relieved. Little had nine strikeouts in relief for Clay.

In their second game, against Dumas, Pine Bluff Northern won 8-6 on Friday.

Pine Bluff scored three runs in the first inning after David Caroll and Cason Blunt both singled before Little hit a triple to score both runs.

Little scored on a pass ball to end the inning, and Northern picked up where they left off in the second inning with Elisha Taylor, Carroll and Blunt each scoring a run in the inning to take a 6-0 lead over Dumas.

Dumas scored early in the game and had a big sixth inning with RBI’s from Seth Spivey and Brock Fortenburg to bring the score to 6-5.

Northern would add two more runs in the same inning with an RBI groundout by Blunt and an RBI single by Curtis Standoak.

In the seventh inning, another run was scored by Dumas, but Pine Bluff would prevail and advance to the next round.

Carroll and Blunt combined for 10 strikeouts on the mound for Pine Bluff. For Dumas, Jayden Manes had two strikeouts while allowing five hits in the loss.

Little led with two hits and two RBI’s at the plate for Northern. Walker Brown led the way for Dumas with a hit and two RBI’s.

Northern defeated DeWitt on Saturday 18-2.
