Anniversaries


Indiana Street Missionary Baptist Church, 1114 S. Indiana St., will celebrate the ninth anniversary of the pastor and wife, the Rev. Brian L. Castle and Constance Castle, at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 12. The guest preacher will be the Rev. Clark Thomas, pastor of New Salem Missionary Baptist Church at Sherrill, accompanied by his congregation.


Pleasant View Ministry Church, 1117 N. Palm St., will celebrate its 93rd anniversary at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 12. The guest speaker will be Shawn Davis, a minister at Canaan Christian Center. Guest ministers will also include Johnny Walker, Willie and Carla Edwards, Cheryl Townsend and Rev. and Mrs. Greg Smith. A special Homecoming Celebration Choir will sing.


New Home Missionary Baptist Church, 3000 S. Orange St., will celebrate the 12th anniversary of the pastor and wife, the Rev. Aaron E. Barnes Sr. and Evelyn Barnes, at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 12. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Brian Dodson, pastor of Freedom Missionary Baptist Church at Altheimer.


Christ Temple Church of God in Christ will celebrate the 11th anniversary of their pastor and wife, James and Doris Hadley, at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 12, at the Christ Temple Family Life Center, 1401 S. Linden St. The guest speaker will Ulyses Walker, pastor of the First Church of God in Christ at McGehee.


St. Ollie Missionary Baptist Church at Star City will celebrate the 28th anniversary of the pastor and wife, the Rev. Melvin and Marilyn Harrison, at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 12. The guest preacher will be the Rev. Arthur Blood, pastor of Greater Rose of Sharon Missionary Baptist Church at Little Rock.


Concerts/Musicals


First Baptist Church, 4901 McDonley Road, at Ladd will host the anniversary celebration of the Little Vessels gospel singers at 6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 12. Special guests will be the Rising Stars from Mississippi.


Watkin Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, 800 S. Juniper St., will host the Southeast Arkansas Community Mass Choir in a musical benefit for Christine Rideout Thomas and Mark Jynes. The event will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11.


Men’s/Women’s programs


Seven Star Missionary Baptist Church of Reed will observe its women’s day at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 12. Brenda Spinks will be the guest speaker.


St. Mark Missionary Baptist Church at Sherrill will celebrate women’s day Sunday, Aug. 12. At 11 a.m., the speaker will be Kazmira Davis, the first lady. At 3 p.m., the guest speaker will be Jackie Flowers of Rose Hill Missionary Baptist Church. Bessie Lancelin will direct the guest choir, Women United for Christ.


Tracy Shavers Ministries will present the 2018 women’s conference at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10, and 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, at 620 L.A. Prexy Davis Drive. Guest speakers will be Brenda Jefferson, an apostle; Grace Jackson, a pastor; and Shameka Mack, an evangelist.


Almeta Missionary Baptist Church at Reedville will present its annual men’s and women’s day program at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 12. The guest speaker will be the Rev. T.R. Ramey, pastor of St. John Missionary Baptist Church at Mitchellville, and director of the Regular Arkansas Baptist Congress of Christian Education. St. John’s ushers will be in charge and dinner will be served.


Greater Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, 3700 W. 13th Ave., will celebrate its annual men’s day at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 12. The guest minister will be the Rev. Marcus Morton, pastor of Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church at Jefferson.


Greater Ward Chapel AME Church, 3700 W. Sixth Ave., will observe its annual men’s day Sunday, Aug. 12. At 11 a.m., the featured speaker will be Bishop Michael Mitchell, presiding prelate of the 12th Episcopal District. At 3 p.m., the guest speaker will be Chestine Sims, pastor of Union AME Church at Little Rock.


Revivals


New Hope Missionary Baptist Church at Moscow will host revival at 7 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, Aug. 15-17. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Robert Willis, pastor of Amos Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.


Special events


First Trinity Church of God in Christ, 800 S. Catalpa St., will host Neighbor’s Day 2018 at 10 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 12. The speaker will be LaJuan Watley, a member of First Trinity.


Prairie Lake Missionary Baptist Church, 2611 Indiana St., will host its annual ushers’ service at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 12. The guest minister will be the Rev. Darren Edgerson, pastor of St. Peter’s Rock Missionary Baptist Church.


Canaan Christian Center, 7890 Middle Warren Road, will host Happy Caldwell, a pastor from Little Rock, for a special service at 10 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 12. Caldwell and his wife, Jeanne, are founders of VTN (the Victory Television Network) and Agape Church at Little Rock.


Allen Temple AME Church, 1125 S. Virginia St., will present its Sunday’s Best Family and Friends Day at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 12, with various musical artists. Guests will include Solomon Hill Baptist Church, Men In Christ, Spiritualettes, Kendrick Williams Jr. of First Assembly of God and Norie Celestine of St. James United Methodist Church.


Rose Hill Missionary Baptist Church, 2121 W. 26th Ave., will observe its annual mission’s day at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 12. The guest speaker will be Jacqueline Washington of St. Peter’s Rock Baptist Church at Dumas.


Morris Chapel Missionary Baptist Church at Sherrill will observe its annual usher’s day during 11 a.m. worship services Sunday, Aug. 12. The featured speaker will be the Rev. J.N. Armstrong Jr., associate minister.


Sixth Avenue Missionary Baptist Church, 1401 E. Sixth Ave., will host family and friends day at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 12. The guest speaker will be the Rev. Darryl Roberts of Kingdom Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church at Memphis.


Indiana Street Baptist Church, 1114 S. Indiana St., will host the 150th anniversary of the Consolidated Saint Marion Baptist District Association Saturday through Thursday, Aug. 18-23. Participants may register at the church at service time or visit www.consolidatedstmarion.com.


Vacation Bible School


St. John AME Church, located on the corners of Cherry and Pullen streets, will continue Vacation Bible School from 6-8:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 10, and from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 11. Classes will be held for all ages. The event includes Bible study, activities and refreshments. School supplies will be given away.


Youth


St. Andrew Missionary Baptist Church, 5810 W. Malcomb St., will sponsor its youth program at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 12. The guest preacher will be the Rev. R.D. Howard Sr., campus pastor of Family Time Baptist Church and Ministry.
