The Arkansas Department of Health regulates the sale of food at establishments which include restaurants, bars, daycares, schools, grocery stores, convenience stores, bed and breakfast facilities, hotels/motels, mobile units and concession stands. Inspections are made unannounced by environmental health specialists.

The following are the results of food safety inspections conducted by the Jefferson County Health Unit:


• AMECA Mexican Restaurant, 7401 Dollarway Road, White Hall. Date of inspection into complaint Aug. 24. No violations found pertaining to complaint during inspection.


• J-MART Store, 13800 Dollarway Road, White Hall. Date of inspection into complaint Aug. 24. No violations observed pertaining to complaint during inspection.


• Southern Days Snow, mobile, 10807 Sulphur Springs Road. Date of opening inspection Aug. 24. No violations observed during time of inspection.


• CFA - ARAMARK, 1301 L.A. Prexy Davis Drive. Date of inspection Aug. 20. Observed missing ceiling tile in kitchen area. Establishment shall be in good repair and attachments to ceilings shall be installed properly.


• Country Kitchen, 4322 Dollarway Road. Date of inspection Aug. 20. Some temperatures in front reach in cooler are out of safe temperature range. Time/Temperature Control for Safety (TCS) Foods shall be kept cold at a temperature of 41.0°F or below, as measured by an internal probe thermometer, to limit bacterial growth. Observed food being thawed in bucket of water near three compartment sink. Food should only be thawed using an approved method. Observed some used wiping cloths being stored on counter tops. Wiping cloths should be kept in a sanitizer solution between use. Single service containers observed being reused throughout establishment. Single service containers should not be reused. Seal on walk in freezer door is broken and needs to be repaired. Shelves in dry storage area are unclean and need to be cleaned. Floors and walls throughout kitchen need to be cleaned. Some parts of flooring in kitchen are damaged and need to be repaired or replaced.


• Hot Rods, 201 S. Main St. Date of inspection Aug. 20. Facility lacks refrigerator thermometer. Food temperature measuring device shall be provided and readily accessible for use in ensuring attainment and maintenance of food temperature. Observed ice scoop being stored on a wiping cloth. Ice scoop should be stored in a way to prevent it from being contaminated.


• L.A. Davis - ARAMARK, 1301 L.A. Prexy Davis Drive. Date of inspection Aug. 20. Observed drinking without lid and a straw. All employee drinks in the food preparation area must have a lid and a straw. This was corrected on site during time of inspection. Observed ranch dressing stored on the floor in the walk in cooler. Food must be stored in compliance with established regulations. All food should be at least 6 inches off of the floor. Ranch dressing was corrected during time of inspection.


• Dairy Queen, 7810 Sheridan Road, White Hall. Date of inspection Aug. 17. Observed some beef patties in warmer out of safe temperature range. Time/Temperature Control for Safety (TCS) Foods shall be kept hot at a temperature of 135.0°F or above, as measured by an internal probe thermometer, to limit bacterial growth. Employee said beef patties were prepared at 10:10 a.m. and reheated beef patties to 200 degrees F during inspection. Observed some chemical bottles being stored above clean utensils and bread. Chemicals should be stored separate from food and utensils. Chemicals were moved to storage area during inspection.


• Hampton Inn, 511 Mallard Loop. Date of inspection Aug. 17. Observed no wash handing sign at hand washing sink. Must have a sign or poster that notifies food workers to wash their hands at all handwashing sinks used by food workers and shall be clearly visible to food workers.


• Popeye’s Louisiana Kitchen, 8101 Sheridan Road, 120 Commerce Drive (per S. Merritt, changed), White Hall. Date of inspection Aug. 17. Observed a leak in the nozzle of the three compartment sink and mop sink- needs to be repaired. Floors, especially under and in front of shelving in dry storage, under equipment, in walk in cooler, and by chicken prep area, are unclean and need to be cleaned.


• Audubon Cafe, 2619 S. Hazel St. Date of inspection Aug. 16. Observed disposable cups directly on the floor. Single-service items shall be stored in a clean, dry location where they are not exposed to splash, dust, or other contaminations at least 6 inches above the floor. During time of inspection, disposable cups were put 6” above the floor.


• Audubon School, 2619 S. Hazel St. Date of inspection Aug. 16. Observation: Facility lacks refrigerator thermometer. Corrective Action: Food temperature measuring device shall be provided and readily accessible for use in ensuring attainment and maintenance of food temperature.


• Shell Food Mart, 6708 Sulphur Springs Road. Date of inspection Aug. 16. Observed ice bags not labeled. Ice that is not in the original package for use in establishment must be labeled. Observed insects during time of inspection. The premises shall be maintained free of insects, rodents, and other pests and controlled to eliminate their presence. Observed trash can without a lid. All trash cans shall be covered with a lid.


• Carpenter’s Produce Fish Market, 1320 E. Harding Ave. Date of inspection Aug. 15. Observed meal in a container not labeled. All food that is not in the original package for use in establishment shall be identified with the common name of the food.


• El Sol Mexican Restaurant, 3801 Camden Road, Suite 9. Date of inspection Aug. 15. Observed food in handwashing sink. Handwashing sink shall be maintained so that it is accessible at all times for employee use, and shall not be used for purposes other than handwashing. Observed chicken in walk-in cooler above cheese. Chicken shall be stored on the bottom shelf to prevent contamination. During time of inspection chicken was placed on the bottom shelf. Observed hamburger meat being thawed improperly. Foods shall be thawed using an approved method. During time of inspection, hamburger meat was placed inside walk-in cooler. Observed spices without labels. Foods in establishment shall be identified with the common name of the food. During time of inspection spices were labeled correctly. Air vents need to be clean in walk-in cooler. Vents shall be clean to sight. During time of inspection vents were cleaned.
