Tax preparers have five IRS-approved continuing education opportunities in November through the Cooperative Extension Service. Registration begins at 8 a.m. Day two classes begin at 8 a.m. and classes adjourn at 4:30 both days, according to a news release.
This year’s schedule has five two-day sessions: Nov. 8-9 – Jonesboro - Hilton Garden Inn, Nov. 12-13 – Fort smith - Double Tree Hotel, Nov. 15-16 – Fayetteville- The Chancellor Hotel, Nov. 26-27 – Hot Springs - The Arlington Hotel and Nov. 29-30 – Little Rock - Cooperative Extension Service state headquarters.
“Tax preparers completing the two days of training will earn 16 Continuing Education Professional hours, including two hours of ethics,” said Kim Magee, an extension program associate for Community and Economic Development.
The course will feature extensive coverage of the new Tax Cut and Jobs act, she said.
“Many owners of sole proprietorships, trusts and S Corporations can deduct up to 20 percent of their qualified business income under the new Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. We’ll cover this and more at this year’s training,” Magee said.
Gary Hoff, who has served as an instructor for this tax school in the past, will return this year and will be joined by new instructor, Curtis Davis. Hoff is an enrolled agent who has served as a previous contributing author of the workbook used as teaching materials for the schools.
Davis is a certified public accountant who has been a participant in these extension-hosted classes for 30 years. Both instructors have their own accounting practices.
